History<\/strong><\/p>\n
AMC Networks<\/a> was originally known as, Rainbow Media Holdings, LLC<\/a>. \u00a0 Rainbow, \u00a0formed in 1980, started as a small network originally only including Bravo<\/a> and SportsChannel New York. \u00a0The Cablevision<\/a> owned media conglomerate would, less than a decade later, go on to merge with NBC<\/a> in 1988. \u00a0This merger gave NBC 50%<\/strong>\u00a0ownership of Rainbow Media in the original deal. \u00a0After decades of trades, gains, and mergers, Cablevision<\/a>\u00a0considered taking Rainbow Media<\/a>\u00a0public, but did not actually go through with the deal until 2011. On March 10th, 2011, Cablevision<\/a>\u00a0took\u00a0Rainbow Media<\/a>\u00a0broke it off into a publicly traded company, AMC Networks<\/a>\u00a0today. Congruently, with AMC<\/a>\u00a0going public, Cablevision<\/a>\u00a0kept their cable business still as a private entity. [2]<\/a><\/p>\n
Since going public, AMC<\/a>\u00a0has hit the ground running. \u00a0Most recently, 2013, AMC Networks<\/a>\u00a0acquired the international content division of Liberty Global<\/a>, Chellomedia<\/a>, for a reported 750 million<\/strong> Euros<\/strong>, or $1.04 billion<\/strong>.\u00a0 This deal now gives AMC Networks<\/a>\u00a0access to approximately 138 countries<\/strong>.
