[8] <\/a>“The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1” is the first part of third movie in The Hunger Games’ series that follows a young Katniss Everdeen after she destroys the games and finds herself in District 13.<\/p><\/div>The series, based on the books of the same name by Suzanne Collins<\/a>,\u00a0starring\u00a0Jennifer Lawrence<\/a>, was surprisingly the lowest-grossing movie of the series franchise thus far, but was the front runner of the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. After the five day break, “Mockingjay” turned out as the third highest five day grosser just behind its second movie, “Catching Fire<\/a>“, and child phenomenon, “<\/i>Frozen<\/a>“<\/i>. [9]<\/a>\u00a0The film is once again directed by “The Hunger Games: Catching Fire<\/a>” visionary Francis Lawrence<\/a>. [8]<\/a><\/p>\n
“John Wick”<\/h2>\n

[10]<\/a>\u00a0“John Wick” follows an ex-hitman on his quest for revenge.<\/p><\/div>The suspected flop starring\u00a0Keanu Reeves<\/a>\u00a0in yet another action film was a pleasant surprise in its opening weekend. Coming in at #2 [11]<\/a>, the action flick wasn’t on the same level as other Lionsgate<\/a> thrillers such as “The Expendables 3″<\/a>\u00a0<\/em>and “3 Days to Kill<\/a>“, but it did well for its audience (skewed male) as well as had a decent showing, 18% gross, in IMAX<\/a>. This September it was announced that CEO Jon Feltheimer<\/a> will receive the Producers Guild of America<\/a>‘s Milestone Award<\/a> for 2015. The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the success of the entertainment industry. His leadership positions range from positions at New World Entertainment<\/a>, Sony Pictures Entertainment<\/a>, and now,\u00a0Lionsgate Entertainment<\/a>. Since being named CEO in 2000, Feltheimer<\/a> has had a myriad of achievements under his belt. In the past he was behind the Oscar<\/a> winners\u00a0“<\/em>Crash<\/a>“\u00a0<\/em>and “Precious<\/a>“, and more currently “The Hunger Games<\/a>” franchise and the start of the “Divergent<\/a>“\u00a0<\/em>series’ franchise. The most recent award winner for Lionsgate<\/a> was J.C. Chandor<\/a>‘s “All Is Lost<\/a>” starring Robert Redford<\/a> with the 2014 Golden Globe<\/a> for Best Original Score for a Motion Picture. The experience of building a product with next to no money, no experience, but a lot of heart, will bring them closer together and give them lessons that will last longer than just the competition run. Set to release on January 16, 2015, it will play to the family and child demographic, and is a sure heart-warmer.\u00a0[16]<\/a><\/p>\n

They are racing to find help against the overambitious Erudite elite.\u00a0[18]<\/a>\u00a0The movie will be released in 2D, Real 3D, and Digital 3D on March 20th, 2015.”The second film in the\u00a0“Divergent”\u00a0franchise takes the story and action to another level and, by partnering with RealD<\/a>, we were able to blend gripping performances and mind-blowing spectacle to create a unique event on screen,” said producers Douglas Wick<\/span><\/a> and Lucy Fisher<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0[19]<\/a>\u00a0“Insurgent” will draw on the the Veronica Roth<\/a> books series by the same name’s fan base, a young adult demographic, and fans of the first “Divergent<\/a>” movie.<\/p>\n

Joined by big names Gwyneth Paltrow<\/a> and Olivia Munn<\/a>, director David Koepp<\/a>\u00a0takes Mortdecai out of his element and across the pond for a mystery of Depp-proportions on January 23, 2015. After keeping to herself for so long, she is revitalized through the chance meeting of Ellis Jones, played by Michiel Huisman<\/a>. Shaped by director Lee Toland Krieger<\/a>, the film also stars Harrison Ford<\/a> and Ellen Burstyn<\/a>, and is set to be released on April 23, 2015. [23]<\/a><\/p>\n
Game Changers for Lionsgate Entertainnment<\/h1>\n
Middle of November, Lionsgate<\/a> and CBS Films<\/a> announced a multi-year film distribution partnership that unites the companies on up to 12 wide release films, beginning with the release of 2015’s “The Duff<\/a>“.\u00a0<\/em>The agreement holds CBS Films responsible for the production and marketing efforts of films, whereas Lionsgate<\/a> will oversee more of the distribution side on multiple platforms: theatrical, home entertainment, etc. “The Duff” withholding,\u00a0Lionsgate<\/a> also receives exclusive international sales for all titles. [24]<\/a>\u00a0Lionsgate has also announced that it will be making “The Expendables 3<\/a>” workout videos in collaboration with Scott Herman Fitness<\/a> to celebrate the digital HD release of “The Expendables 3 Unrated Edition<\/a>” on November\u00a011, 2014.\u00a0[25]<\/a>\u00a0Lionsgate<\/a> is also using the American Film Market<\/a> to launch its name in and among the independent films’ world. It features a range of films from “La La Land<\/a>“, starring big names such as Emma Watson<\/a> and Miles Teller<\/a>, to the story of the oil drilling catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico, “Deepwater Horizon<\/a>“, due out in 2015 and September 30, 2016, respectively. The Future of Lionsgate Entertainment<\/h1>\n
This past October, Lionsgate<\/a> announced that both it and Tribeca Enterprises<\/a>\u00a0will be launching their own online streaming service beginning the first half of 2015. The online video service will make the studios’ movies and ones from outside studios available to viewers. They plan to draw on many of their industry contacts.\u201cWe are pleased to join with Lionsgate<\/a> . . . to create a highly curated experience that disrupts the \u2018more-is-more\u2019 model in today\u2019s streaming on-demand landscape,\u201d said\u00a0Jane Rosenthal<\/span><\/a>, chief executive of Tribeca Enterprises<\/a>. \u201cTribeca Short List<\/span><\/a>\u00a0aims to be a service where you can see films you never got to watch, forgot to watch, and want to watch.\u201d Details such as films available and pricing have yet to be released.\u00a0[27]<\/a>\u00a0Based in New York, the service will be\u00a0overseen\u00a0by members of both studios as well as an advisory board of knowledgable frontrunners in the American entertainment industry. [28]<\/a>\u00a0It was also just announced that Dalian Wanda Group, the Chinese conglomerate, wants to own a controlling stake in Lionsgate to expand its rapidly growing film industry.
