Founded in 1984 as The Arts & Entertainment Network,\u00a0A+E Networks<\/a> is an award-winning, global media company whose programming reaches more than 330 million homes in 160 markets and 39 languages with its diverse 62 channel feeds. A+E Networks will\u00a0turn its H2<\/a> channel into Viceland, a 24-hour cable network programmed by multimedia company Vice Media<\/a>. [8]<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>Launching in early 2016, Viceland will be distributed in approximately 70 million homes, and will feature hundreds of hours of new lifestyle and documentary programming developed by the youth-centric brand. [9]<\/a> Oscar-winning writer\/director\u00a0and\u00a0Vice creative director, Spike Jonze<\/a>, will oversee all aspects of the new channel’s development. Over a year ago, A+E Networks made a $250 million investment in Vice,\u00a0<\/span>bringing its stake in the company to 15%. [11]<\/a> A+E Networks will handle distribution and technical operations and have put complete trust in Vice, handing over all programming rights. A+E has suffered an audience decline over the last year as ratings from reality TV hits, such as Duck Dynasty<\/a><\/em>, have fallen\u00a0to moderate numbers.\u00a0[8]<\/a>\u00a0A+E is making smart decisions utilizing Vice to win back and incentivize younger audiences with new original programming. A+E launched\u00a0new digital brand called Asterisk<\/a>, <\/span>a website featuring stories examining contemp<\/span>orary\u00a0culture through a historical lens. The site is aimed at\u00a0a younger millennial demo, posting\u00a0articles that include\u00a0videos, photos, quizzes and BuzzFeed<\/a>-esque lists etc.\u00a0[13]<\/a> According to A+E, the brand features premium content \u201ccreated for sharing across the social web,\u201d [14]<\/a> and also offers marketing partners “native\u00a0advertising” solutions customizable for specific\u00a0products. LIBERTY GLOBAL DISTRIBUTION DEAL<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

A+E Networks has signed an extended distribution deal with British-based telecommunications and television company, Liberty Global<\/a>, for exclusive carriage of its channels across Europe. A+E Networks branded content can\u00a0now be located on Liberty Global networks\u00a0in the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland, Romania, Hungary, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.\u00a0[15]<\/a>\u00a0Liberty Global is the largest cable c<\/span><\/span>ompany in the world, with 27 million customers across 14 countries.\u00a0[16]<\/a>\u00a0Lifetime<\/a> and H2<\/a> will be available in the UK and Ireland for the first time.<\/span> Also under the terms of the new deal, all current A+E Networks UK channels have to remain on their existing Liberty Global platforms, which already reach over 15.5 million subscribers regularly. Beginning next year, A+E Networks will combine\u00a0the Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards<\/a> and the Critics\u2019 Choice Television Awards<\/a> into one three-hour event. A+E partnered with the Broadcast Film Critics Association<\/a> and the Broadcast Television Journalists Association<\/a>\u00a0in 2014 to obtain\u00a0exclusive broadcast rights for the\u00a02015 and 2016 awards.\u00a0[12]<\/a> The new show, the\u00a021st Annual Critics\u2019 Choice Awards<\/em>, will be cast\u00a0live January 17 on\u00a0A+E Networks\u2019 A&E<\/a>, Lifetime<\/a> and LMN<\/a>\u00a0simultaneously. Last year, The\u00a0Critics\u2019 Choice Movie Awards drew 1.92 million total viewers and the Television Awards, after moving from the CW<\/a>, drew 522,000 total viewers. Under Bennet\u2019s leadership, FYI and LMN became two of the fastest growing networks in television.
