With regards to distribution, Sony Pictures holds the third spot just behind <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warnerbros.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Warner Brothers <\/a>and Walt Disney, with 12.6% of the market share <a href=\"http:\/\/www.the-numbers.com\/market\/distributors\">[4]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sony\u2019s earnings report for the current fiscal year will be released on April 28<sup>th<\/sup>, 2016\u00a0at 4:45 PM <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.net\/SonyInfo\/IR\/calendar\/presen\/\">[5]<\/a>.\u00a0On January 29<sup>th<\/sup>, the Sony Corporation released its financial results for its third quarter. Sales for Sony Pictures increased from 206.6 billion yen in the third quarter of 2014 to 262.1 billion yen in the third quarter of 2015. This represents a 26.9% increase in yen, which Sony attributed this increase to a surge in theatrical revenues due to international successes like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt2379713\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Spectre<\/em> <\/a>and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hoteltransylvania2.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hotel Transylvania 2<\/a>\u00a0<\/em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sony.net\/SonyInfo\/IR\/library\/fr\/15q3_sony.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">[6]<\/a>.\u00a0Top investment analysts are advising investors to hold their position with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nasdaq.com\/symbol\/sne\" target=\"_blank\">Sony stock<\/a>, as forecasts show a predicted 27% median increase from last fiscal year&#8217;s stock prices <a href=\"http:\/\/markets.ft.com\/research\/Markets\/Tearsheets\/Forecasts?s=6758:TYO\" target=\"_blank\">[7]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On April 24<sup>th<\/sup>, Sony\u2019s stock prices closed at $26.59, a five-cent decrease from the previous day\u2019s close. The film was released on March 16<sup>th<\/sup> through TriStar, a property of Sony Pictures <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=miraclesfromheaven.htm\" target=\"_blank\">[17]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>The Brothers Grimsby <\/em>(R)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/_YtclB_02wA?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Though Sony has not released the budget for the film, <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt3381008\/\">The Brothers Grimsby<\/a> <\/em>has undoubtedly been a financial disappointment. Debuting on March 11<sup>th<\/sup>, the movie has yet to break just $7 million in the United States. That being said, the film has been a hit internationally with revenues upwards of $20 million outside the US. With pricey talent such as Sacha Baron Cohen, Penelope Cruz, Rebel Wilson, and Gabourey Sidibe, it\u2019s doubtful Sony has seen a return on investment as of yet <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=grimsby.htm\" target=\"_blank\">[18]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Pride and Prejudice and Zombies <\/em>(PG-13)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/foGraEVNI0s?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This satirical take on the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goodreads.com\/book\/show\/5899779-pride-and-prejudice-and-zombies\" target=\"_blank\">novel <\/a>was released on February 5<sup>th<\/sup> to less-than-enthusiastic reception. Though the film saw a budget of $28 million, it has grossed just $16 million worldwide, with the opening weekend accounting for 48.8% of that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.boxofficemojo.com\/movies\/?id=prideprejudicezombies.htm\" target=\"_blank\">[19]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>UPCOMING RELEASES<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>The Angry Birds Movie <\/em>(PG)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/iVQJ32gIq4E?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>This 3D film adaptation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.angrybirdsgames.com\/\">popular game <\/a>will be released on May 20<sup>th<\/sup>. Sony Pictures is clearly expecting to cash in on the video game\u2019s massive audience and has invested in a $250 million promotional campaign which includes a Happy Meal promo with McDonald\u2019s and multiple television ads for car company <a href=\"http:\/\/www.citroen.com\/en\" target=\"_blank\">Citro\u00ebn<\/a>. Other partnerships consist of Ziploc, Menchie\u2019s Frozen Yogurt, Home Depot, and about 100 more brands and companies <a href=\"http:\/\/deadline.com\/2016\/04\/the-angry-birds-promo-partners-mcdonalds-citroen-1201741476\/\" target=\"_blank\">[20]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><em>Ghostbusters <\/em>(PG-13)<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/w3ugHP-yZXw?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/heat-vision\/new-all-female-ghostbusters-cast-767610\" target=\"_blank\">buzz <\/a>surrounding the remake of <em>Ghostbusters <\/em>is still going strong. The film features four female stars\u2014Melissa McCarthy, Kristen Wiig, Leslie Jones, and Kate McKinnon\u2014in place of the all-male cast the original film had. The remake has raised important questions regarding women\u2019s roles in popular film. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.imdb.com\/title\/tt1289401\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>Ghostbusters<\/em> <\/a>is slated for theatrical release July 15th\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.latimes.com\/entertainment\/movies\/la-ca-mn-ghostbusters-katie-dippold-20160424-story.html\" target=\"_blank\">[21]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><strong>UPDATES AND DEVELOP<\/strong><strong>MENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>On April 7<sup>th<\/sup>, US District Judge R. Gary Klausner approved a multi-million dollar settlement in a class-action lawsuit by previous employees of Sony Pictures. The lawsuit was a result of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/sony-cyber-hack-timeline-2014-12\" target=\"_blank\">cyberhacking incident <\/a>back in 2014, which released personal information of many employees and Sony partners. The collection, called Nas x Ghostbusters, will be collaborating with brands like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fila.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">FILA<\/a>, New Era, Monster, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hstryclothing.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">HSTRY<\/a>, Italia Independent, and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tokyobikenyc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Tokyobike<\/a>, and will be exclusively unveiled by <a href=\"http:\/\/hypebeast.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">HYPEBEAST<\/a>. The film is a unique concept: a mashup sequel to both\u00a0<em>Men in Black <\/em>and <em><a href=\"http:\/\/www.sonypictures.com\/movies\/21jumpstreet\/\" target=\"_blank\">21 Jump Street<\/a>. <\/em>Other ambitious projects include animated films like a CGI version of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.peterrabbit.com\/books\/\" target=\"_blank\">Beatrix Potter stories of Peter Rabbit <\/a>and a third installment in the <em>Hotel Transylvania <\/em>franchise. They also are in the process of developing the animated <a href=\"http:\/\/variety.com\/2015\/film\/news\/sony-emoji-animated-movie-2017-1201667497\/\" target=\"_blank\"><em>The Emoji Movie<\/em><\/a>, which will be set inside an iPhone <a href=\"http:\/\/www.slashfilm.com\/cinema-con-2016-sony\/\" target=\"_blank\">[25]<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Sony Pictures is taking a marked interest in sequels and remakes, hoping to capitalize on the popularity of existing films and franchises. There are plans for <em>Blade Runner 2, <\/em>the follow-up to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.warnerbros.com\/blade-runner\" target=\"_blank\">original 1982 movie<\/a>.
