The company was founded in 1997 as the Hearst-Argyle Company but is recognized as part of its father <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hearst.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hearst Corporation<\/a> venture founded by\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Randolph_Hearst\" target=\"_blank\">William Randolph Hearst<\/a> in 1928 (a company today with interests in newspapers, magazines, networks, TV stations, publishing, cable networks, internet businesses, and real estate). HTV owns and operates two radio stations and thirty television stations, predominately affiliated with either <a href=\"http:\/\/abc.go.com\" target=\"_blank\">ABC<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\" target=\"_blank\">NBC<\/a>\u00a0Universal Television Distribution, and has also recently become a leading contender for the future of internet broadcasting. It is a nationally renowned newscasting company with a long history of award-winning journalism, once feared as much as Rupurt Murdoch&#8217;s News Corp was in recent years, now known only for its long standing loyalty to their clients. He entered the world of newspaper as a publisher in 1880 by acquiring the rights to the\u00a0<em><a title=\"San Francisco Examiner\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/San_Francisco_Examiner\">San Francisco Daily Examiner<\/a>, <\/em>and seven even years later he gave \u00a0the paper to his son\u00a0<a title=\"William Randolph Hearst\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/William_Randolph_Hearst\">William Randolph Hearst<\/a>, who transformed the <em>Examiner<\/em> into <em>The\u00a0Monarch\u00a0of the\u00a0Dallies<\/em>\u00a0in 1887.\u00a0William Randolph Hearst made it a point to buy and utilize the most modern printing equipment available to a late eighties publisher and, through the combination of his modernization\u00a0efforts and the best known journalists and upstanding journalism around, completely transformed the paper into the legendary force it is today. Suffice it to say, the <em>Examiner<\/em> was a financial success and powerful influence within years. Then, in 1895, William Randolph Hearst bought the rights to popular publication\u00a0<em>The<\/em> <em>New York Journal,<\/em> and his newspaper dynasty skyrocketed into a new era of big corporation publication. Before 1920, his chain of influence would reach from coast to coast.<\/p>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><strong>Assets<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a television player, Hearst owns the largest number of <a href=\"http:\/\/abc.go.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">ABC<\/a>-affiliated stations and the second largest number of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">NBC<\/a>-affiliated stations in the business with regards to size of audience reached (18% of total households in the United States). Hearst TV broadcasts all over the country. It also operates two radio stations in Baltimore, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wbal.com\/\">WBAL<\/a> (Channel 1090) and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.98online.com\/\">WIYY<\/a> (Channel 97.9). Hearst is known predominately for its finely tuned, hard-hitting newscasts, but also for engaging audiences through popular entertainment television and a variety local programming.\u00a0As of 2012, the Hearst name extends to a sum of exactly twenty nine television stations. Ten of those are affiliated with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\" target=\"_blank\">NBC<\/a>, thirteen with <a href=\"http:\/\/www.abc.go.com\" target=\"_blank\">ABC<\/a>, two through either\u00a0<a title=\"CBS\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/CBS\">CBS<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a title=\"The CW Television Network\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/The_CW_Television_Network\">CW<\/a>, and finally a single\u00a0<a title=\"MyNetworkTV\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/MyNetworkTV\">MyNetworkTV<\/a>\u00a0affiliate. Since then there has been no public release of any kind as to how the Television division of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hearst.com\/index.php\" target=\"_blank\">Hearst Corporation<\/a> is doing financially. More so, in the fall quarter of 2012, Hearst Television managed to keep out of the news altogether from August 26<sup>th<\/sup> to November 15<sup>th<\/sup>. Many broadcast companies reacted negatively, knee deep in the backlash from their advertising interests. Humphries<\/a> was promoted to President and General Manager of Hearst Television\u2019s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wgal.com\/tv\/about\" target=\"_blank\">WGAL<\/a> station in Lancaster Pennsylvania. <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/Hearstcorp\/statuses\/274608587798609920\">Humphries<\/a>\u00a0previously held a powerful position at Hearst Television\u2019s Greenville, South Carolina station <a href=\"http:\/\/www.google.com\/url?sa=t&amp;rct=j&amp;q=&amp;esrc=s&amp;source=web&amp;cd=1&amp;ved=0CDEQFjAA&amp;url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wyff4.com%2F&amp;ei=iX_BUIKyB6-u0AGRpIG4CQ&amp;usg=AFQjCNHqg5TtTyKvaAg557q7ANd3wofofg&amp;sig2=onO_Wzgy-JqXvDBrXMOD6A\" target=\"_blank\">WYFF<\/a>. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tvnewscheck.com\/article\/63884\/john-humphries-tapped-to-be-wgal-gm\" target=\"_blank\">(2)<\/a> Also on November 30<sup>th<\/sup>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.scribd.com\/doc\/75777795\/SPJMultimediaToolkit1\" target=\"_blank\">Brian Bracco<\/a> (former station group Vice President) was named the new Vice President and General Manager of an NBC affiliate in Kansas City as well as a smaller station in Lawrence, Kansas. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.mediabistro.com\/tvspy\/kshb-names-brian-bracco-general-manager_b71602\" target=\"_blank\">(3)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Two other staff changes only now being released in late Fall are that of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hearsttelevision.com\/jordan-wertlieb\/\" target=\"_blank\">Jordan Wertlieb&#8217;s<\/a> new Presidency and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hearst.com\/about-hearst\/corporate-david-j-barrett.php\" target=\"_blank\">David J. Barrett&#8217;s<\/a> new position as Chairman, both of the Hearst Television as a whole. Frank A. Bennack, CEO of the company, said this with regard to the two promotions. &#8220;I congratulate [them] on [their] new roles and look forward to [their] continued stewardship of the expansion and success of Hearst Television.&#8221; <a href=\"https:\/\/plus.google.com\/117276923788526037867\/posts\" target=\"_blank\">(20)<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Scheduled for Friday, December 7<sup>th<\/sup>, the 27th annual <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtae.com\/bundleup2012\">WTAE-TV Project Bundle-Up Teletho<\/a>n will continue Hearst Television\u2019s tradition of senior citizen and children oriented community service in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, through a day-long telethon that won&#8217;t interrupt regularly scheduled programming. The details of Project Bundle-Up were announced through the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wtae.com\/news\/27th-Annual-WTAE-TV-Project-Bundle-Up-Telethon-Airs-Friday-December-7th\/-\/9681432\/17608332\/-\/g89qsg\/-\/index.html\">WTAE<\/a> website as well as a brief history of the project and summation of the Hearst media legacy. Sponsored by the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.salvationarmyusa.org\/usn\/www_usn_2.nsf\" target=\"_blank\">Salvation Army<\/a>, the telethon will feature an hour-long weather special as volunteers accept call-in pledges, and all proceeds go towards the Salvation Army.
