Brief Overview<\/h2>\n
This year Universal<\/a> celebrates its 100th<\/sup> anniversary, the company was incorporated April 30th<\/sup>, 1912 and has been shaping the history of film ever since. It is the oldest movie studio in the United States of America and has made such classics as All Quiet on the Western Front<\/em><\/a>, To Kill a Mockingbird<\/em><\/a>, The Deer Hunter<\/em><\/a>, and Schindler\u2019s List<\/em><\/a>.[i]<\/a><\/p>\n
In May of 2004 controlling stake in Universal was sold to General Electric<\/a> resulting in the creation of the media super-conglomerate NBC Universa<\/a>l, while Universal Studios Inc. remained the name of the production subsidiary. Than in 2009 GE and Comcast<\/a> announced a NBC Universal joint venture, with 51 percent owned by Comcast and 49 percent owned by GE.[ii]<\/a><\/p>\n
\u00a0Films<\/h2>\n
For Universal Pictures the most surprising, successful, and highest grossing movie of the year came in the form of a stuffed animal teddy bear and it wasn\u2019t the family friendly kind either. Ted<\/a><\/em>, the R-rated comedy starring Seth MacFarlane<\/a>, Mark Walhberg<\/a>, and Mila Kunis<\/a>, became the highest grossing R-rated comedy of all time and the first to gross over $500 million in the box office.[iii]<\/a> The budget for Ted<\/em> is $50 million and it is also the 8th<\/sup> highest grossing movie of the year.[iv]<\/a>\u00a0 The movie becomes available to own on December 11th<\/sup>, just in time for the holidays.<\/p>\n
