The 84th Annual Academy Awards<\/strong><\/p>\n
The 84th Annual Academy Awards took place on Sunday, February 26, 2012. Walt Disney Studios and Touchstone pictures received a total of eleven Oscar nominations for \u201cWar Horse<\/a>\u201d, \u201cThe Muppets<\/a>\u201d, \u201cReal Steel<\/a>\u201d, \u201cThe Help<\/a>\u201d and Pixar\u2019s animated short \u201cLa Luna<\/a>\u201d, in a range of categories.1<\/sup><\/p>\n
\u201cWar Horse\u201d, directed by Steven Spielberg, picked up five Oscar nominations for Best Picture, Cinematography, Original Score, Sound Editing and Sound Mixing.2<\/sup><\/p>\n
However, on award night, \u201cWar Horse\u201d received no love from Oscar, receiving no awards. \u201cThe Muppets\u201d picked up an Oscar for Best Original Score for \u201cMan or Muppet.\u201d3<\/sup><\/p>\n

Octavia Spencer at the 84th Annual Academy Awards<\/p><\/div>\n
\u201cReel Steel\u201d was nominated for Visual Effects but did not win. Octavia Spencer won best supporting actress for her role in \u201cThe Help.\u201d \u201cThe Help\u201d, which was released through Touchstone pictures, also received two other Oscar nominations for Best Picture and Best Leading Actress.4<\/sup><\/p>\n
Lastly, \u201cLa Luna\u201d received a nomination for Best Animated Short but also did not win.<\/p>\n

Marvel Studios hosted a global twitter chat with the stars and director of \u201cThe Avengers<\/a>\u201d to promote its release on May 4, 2012. Fans used the #Avengers hashtag and @Avengers handle to ask any questions regarding the highly anticipated film.5<\/sup><\/p>\n

In addition, fans who participated got a 10-second sneak peak of the 30-second teaser trailer that aired during Super Bowl XLVI, along with many trivia prize give-aways. \u201cThe Avengers\u201d, based on the very popular comic book series, stars Robert Downy Jr.<\/a>, Chris Evans<\/a>, Mark Ruffalo<\/a>, Chris Hemsworth<\/a>, Scarlett Johansson<\/a>, Jeremy Renner<\/a> and Tom Hiddleston<\/a>, with Stellan Skarsg\u00e5rd<\/a>\u00a0 and Samuel Jackson<\/a>, with the direction of Joss Whedon<\/a>.<\/p>\n
