{"id":1783,"date":"2015-03-25T14:13:02","date_gmt":"2015-03-25T14:13:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/bejone03.expressions.syr.edu\/trf594\/?p=1783"},"modified":"2015-03-26T03:49:16","modified_gmt":"2015-03-26T03:49:16","slug":"american-odyssey-the-beginning","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/bejone03.expressions.syr.edu\/trf594\/2015\/03\/25\/american-odyssey-the-beginning\/","title":{"rendered":"American Odyssey: The Beginning"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\">NBC <em>American Odyssey<\/em><\/p>\n<p>On Sunday April 5, 2015 NBC will premiere its new intelligence drama series\u00a0<i><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbc.com\/american-odyssey\/\">American Odyssey<\/a>\u00a0<\/i>in the 10 pm slot. \u00a0<em>American Odyssey\u00a0<\/em>is the story of female American Sargent Odelle Ballard (Anna Friel) fighting jihadists in North Africa and her struggle to return home to her family in America. Two other Americans, attorney Peter Decker (Peter Facinelli), and Harrison Walters (Jake Robinson) gets tangled up with the jihadists as well.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Production<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The full series, originally named <em>Odyssey<\/em>,\u00a0was ordered\u00a0originally at the NBC Upfronts in May along with\u00a0<em>Allegiance <\/em>which has already been cancelled. \u00a0The show is a co-production between Universal Television, London based Red Arrow Entertainment and its US partners Fabrik Entertainment. \u00a0Red Arrow is part of the larger Red Arrow Entertainment group which is part of the German based ProSiebenSat.1 media group. \u00a0The series was created by Peter Horton, Adam Armus and Kay Foster who will serve as the shows executive producers. \u00a0Both Armus and Foster were previously executive producers on <em>The Following <\/em>and<em>\u00a0Heroes<\/em>. The show was shot in Morocco and New York.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Cast<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The main character is played by Anna Friel, a British actress best known for her role in the ABC television series\u00a0<em>Pushing Daisies. \u00a0<\/em>The other two lead characters are played by Peter Facinelli and Jake Robinson. \u00a0Facinelli gained a large following after his role in the\u00a0<em>Twilight<\/em> movies as the father vampire Carlisle. \u00a0Robinson has appeared in many episodes of the show\u00a0<em>The Carrie Diaries,<\/em> the prequel to\u00a0<em>Sex in the City. \u00a0<\/em>An interesting thing about the show is that it was shot in Morocco and some casting was done there as well. \u00a0Omar Ghazaoui who will play Aslam\u00a0is a Moroccan teenager who was chosen during casting in Morocco. \u00a0This will be his first professional acting role.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Programming<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>American Odyssey<\/em>\u00a0will be up against\u00a0<em>Revenge\u00a0<\/em>on ABC and\u00a0<em>Battle Creek<\/em> on CBS for the Sunday 10pm slot.
