The ACM Honors was recorded on August 23rd<\/sup>, 2017 at the Ryman Auditorium in Nashville, TN.<\/p>\n The Honors cover awards in categories that the ACM Awards in the spring (April) were unable to.<\/p>\n Normally, the ACM Honors is not televised but premiered last year on CBS and CBS continued by airing it Friday, September 15th<\/sup> at 9:00 pm EST \/ 8:00 pm Central and can now be seen on CBS On Demand.<\/p>\n A radio special will follow from honoree, Bob Kingsley\u2019s \u201cCountry Top 40.\u201d<\/p>\n The Honors came in first place with \u201cAmerica\u2019s Got Talent\u201d coming in second on NBC in the first hour. “Dateline (NBC)” tied with a 4.66 rating for the second hour Friday night. The other competition was \u201c20\/20\u201d and \u201cWhat Would You Do?\u201d on ABC, which came in at third place, though \u201c20\/20\u201d at the 10:00pm hour had slightly higher ratings than \u201cWhat Would You Do\u201d with 3.39 and 3.01respectively. \u201cPenn and Teller: Fool Us\u201d on the CW claimed fourth place and \u201cBeat Shazam\u201d on Fox, ranking fifth with a 1.29 rating according to tvbythenumbers<\/a>.<\/p>\n For a Friday, it makes sense the show it came in at number one. According to a study by the Radio Advertising Bureau in June of 2015, Country radio ranks as the number one listened to format in the U.S.<\/p>\n The lead-in was \u201cBig Brother\u201d and local news followed.<\/p>\n According to the website \u201cThe Boot,\u201d honorees included, Kelsea Ballerini<\/strong> for the Gene Weed Milestone Award<\/em> for having three number one hits off her first record.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Eric Church<\/strong> was awarded the Merle Haggard Spirit Award<\/em> and is the second person to receive it behind Miranda Lambert. This award focuses on the storytelling aspect of performance.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Toby Keith<\/strong>, Willie Nelson<\/strong> and Shel Silverstein<\/strong> (posthumously) received the Poet\u2019s Award<\/em> for songwriting.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Reba McEntire<\/strong> and D.J Bob Kingsley<\/strong> were recipients of the Mae Boren Axton Service Award<\/em> for their longevity as part of the Academy of Country Music.<\/p>\n Lori McKenna<\/strong> received the Songwriter of the Year Award.<\/em><\/p>\n Nashville <\/em><\/strong>was the recipient of the Tex Ritter Film Award<\/em> for being a show that features country music.<\/p>\n \u00a0<\/strong>Dolly Parton <\/strong>received the Gary Haber Lifting Lives Award<\/em> for her work following the wildfires in her native East Tennessee.<\/p>\n Finally, George Strait <\/strong>was awarded the Cliffie Stone Icon Award<\/em> for assisting in popularizing country music through his participation in it.<\/p>\n Some of the honorees already mentioned will be performing alongside Vince Gill<\/strong>, Alan Jackson<\/strong>, Toby Keith<\/strong>, Little Big Town<\/strong>, Maren Morris<\/strong>, Brad Paisley<\/strong>, Thomas Rhett<\/strong>, Hillary Scott<\/strong> and Chris Stapleton<\/strong>.<\/p>\n Presenters included, Jason Aldean<\/strong>, Bobby Bones<\/strong>, Ross Copperman<\/strong>, Lady Antebellum<\/strong> and Jimmy Webb <\/strong>among other previously named performers.<\/p>\n At the time of taping, the Troy Gentry helicopter crash<\/a> had not yet taken place. Gentry was part of Grand Ole Opry inductee Montgomery Gentry<\/strong>. Also, Country Music Hall of Famer, Don Williams<\/strong> also passed away September 8th<\/sup>.
