Finances

Reliance Entertainment has agreed to continue financing DreamWorks on their films.[6] Originally they had funded DreamWorks $325 million to produce four to six movies a year but after box office flops like Cowboys and Aliens Reliance became weary. DreamWorks will proceed but now producing three to five movies a year with their new lower budget from Reliance. In order to make higher budgeted films they will have to find co-partners who will agree to fund them in their endeavors

Due to the lower budget DreamWorks is redesigning their production schedule. Physical Production Executive Steve Molen from DreamWorks resigned because he knew that most of the people in his department would get laid off. They fired 10 out of the 80 DreamWorks employees. They are still looking to make cuts in their legal, insurance, and IT departments.[7] This year they will only produce two movies, Lincoln and People Like Us.

Teaming up with Fox

On January 23rd, 2012 DreamWorks announced that Twentieth Century Fox will be partnering with DreamWorks to co-finance two of DreamWorks next films that are projected to be released in the future.[8] One of the movies, which will be released in 2012, is Lincoln, which is a biographical drama about the life of one of America’s beloved presidents Abraham Lincoln. The film is based off a biography of Lincoln written by Dorris Kearn Goodwin. Daniel Day Lewis is to play the starring role, Abraham Lincoln. Disney will still be distributing the film along with Fox will distribute internationally. Fox will also partner with DreamWorks on the making of their movie Robopocalyspe.[9] Set to premiere around the world on July 3rd, 2013, this film is about the fate of the human race after following a robot revolution.
