Code Black is a new medical drama premiering on CBS on September 30th at 10 pm. It is based on a nonfictional documentary by Ryan McGarry about the busiest ER in the country. Code Black is the term for when the number of patients coming into the ER outnumbers the amount of doctors available, which makes it extremely difficult for the all the patients to be treated. The show is produced and written by Michael Seltzman, and stars Marcia Gay Harden and Luis Guzman.
The show will become a part of CBS’s Wednesday night lineup, airing after Criminal Minds. It’s competing against strong shows such as ABC’s Nashville and NBC’s Chicago P.D, so it’ll be interesting to see how the ratings compare. Code Black is filmed in a gritty, documentary style, and in addition, the show hired 30 real life medical staff members to make it more authentic. I am looking forward to watching Code Black, and seeing how it differs from all the other medical dramas.
