They lead gambling rings that bet on Alex’s ability to prevent crime in the city, or break through the security systems of wealthy clients. The show is described as a combination of intense action-packed content and absurdity. It will take situations to incomprehensible heights, and attempt to leave in shock after every episode.

Sharing the same producers as NBC’s The Blacklist, it will follow the show on the Thursday night line-up. The Blacklist will return at 9pm on Thursday, with The Player following at 10pm, as the network hopes to piggyback the same audience.
