ABC’s got the new hit of this fall, which will premiere on Monday, September 25th at 10 pm with ‘Dancing with the Stars’ as its lead-in. ‘The Good Doctor’ is based on a Korean soap-opera, and follows the life of Shaun Murphy, a surgeon with autism and savant syndrome, who joins a prestigious hospital’s surgical unit.
The show will be produced by ‘House’ creator, David Shore, along with ‘Hawaii Five-0’ star, Daniel Dae Kim. During the previous fall season, ABC bought the rights with a pilot commitment, which was ordered on January, and later picked up to series in May.
‘The Good Doctor’ goes in line with the ABC’s target audience, young and female, and its diverse appeal. Fans and critics have already built a connection to ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ even though ABC itself has not. Competing against ‘The Brave’ (NBC) and ‘Scorpion’ (CBS), my prediction is that ‘The Good Doctor’ will gather its audience while the others fight for their segment, male and older.
With David Shore and Daniel Dae Kim, the ‘Grey’s’ connection, and the diverse appeal, ‘The Good Doctor’ stands a high chance of success, and my prediction is that it will be renewed for a second season.
