A Brief History

20th Century Fox (Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation), one of the major Hollywood film studios, was created in 1935 by the merger of Fox Film Corporation and Twentieth Century Pictures. In 1985, the company was sold to Rupert Murdoch who was the owner of News Corporation, and became a subsidiary of News Corporation. Since then, 20th Century Fox has produced numerous beloved films such as Kind and I, The Sound of Music, Star Wars, Home aloneTitanic, X-men, and Avatar.

Tom Rothman, a Chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Film Studo

According to The Hollywooed Reporter, Tom Rothman, who worked in the 20th Century Fox for 18 years would resign as a Chairman and CEO of 20th Century Fox Film Studio on January, 2013. This would affect the structure of 20th Century Fox system to reorganize studio operations. Due to this change, Jim Gianopulous, a co-chairman, would run the film sutdio.(The Hollywood Reporter)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox reorganized conumer product team to be a global brand in all divisions of film and TV company. To develop and promote a new and better image of a global brand, 20th Century Fox hired new people who were industry experts in global strategy. Espcially, Peter Leeb, who worked for advertising for Fortune over 500 brands such as Ford and Gatorade, will manage shows like Family guy and Modern Family.(The Hollywood Reporter)

According to New York Times, Universal Pictures, 20th Century Fox and two units of Sony Pictures Entertainment agreed that producers could place a “p.g.a” after their names on the film. This means that producers have more credits in the film. However, Warner Brothers, Walt Disney Studios and Paramount pictures declined to this “p.g.a.”(New York Times)

According to LA Times, 20th Century Fox will screen ‘Life of Pi’ which is based on Yann’ Martel’s bestseller novel on big screen against the all odds. It would be a huge gamble to 20th Century Fox, because ‘Life of Pi’ is even not based on comic book and major studios pefer to make films like Transformers or Star Wars which seems profitable. However, 20th Century Fox worked with Ang lee, Oscar award-winning director to produce ‘Life of Pi’ as a 3D. ‘Life of Pi’ is mainly about a boy’s spiritual journey on a lifeboat with a tiger. According to NewYork Times, 20th Centuy Fox showed over 100 Cinema Archives series of the successful films of older films for the on-demand of DVD-R editions of older films as other studios did. In addition, the company will introduce ‘The Power and the Glory(1933)’, ‘I Can Get It For You Wholesale(1951)’,’Gallant Lady(1933)’ and so on.(NewYork Times)

According to The Hollywood Reporter, 20th Century Fox’s 3D movie,’Life of Pi,’ got off a good start in Asia regardless of success. Especially, ‘Life of Pi’ has already earned about $53 million in China. About a month ago, many people doubted about the success of ‘Life of Pi.’ However, the movies became beloved worldwidely and earned about $133 million. Moreover, ‘Life of Pi’ started off as a No.1 in Spain. It is expected to increase more audience that many other markets will open in next week.(The Hollywood Reporter)
