Dynasty #12- Week 7 & Conclusion

After taking a week off during Thanksgiving break, Dynasty came back on November 29th. TV By The Numbers shows its steady 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic and a slight total viewership increase to 700,000. NBC’s Law & Order: SVU took the lead during the 9:00 PM time-slot with 7 million viewers. In a recent effort to create buzz about the show, the producers strategically leaked that Nicollette Sheridan will be joining the cast as Alexis Carrington through an Instagram. They are hopeful that ratings will increase with the addition of this new character. Additionally, reviews on TV Line show that the Thanksgiving episode took a few unexpected twists and turns. According to executive producer Sallie Patrick, it was their strategy to wait because, “it would have been hard to come out of the gate with an episode like this. You have to be with the characters long enough to start caring about them”. Although I do agree, I think Dynasty should have brought this kind of excitement to the table earlier because now they might not be able to redeem themselves from such low ratings.

Overall, the future is unclear for Dynasty. While the ratings do not look promising, the show has been given another chance to attract viewers through the continuation of its first season. The producers are optimistic that their deal with Netflix will enable Dynasty to appeal to a wider range of audiences.
