In week 5, TV By The Numbers shows that Dynasty maintained its 0.2 rating in the 18-49 demographic but the total viewership decreased to 720,000. Instead of loosing to the usual winner Modern Family, CBS’s Seal Team took the lead with almost 6 times as many viewers during this time slot. Despite the fact that Modern Family did not air this week, Dynasty still suffered which demonstrates that the low ratings result from the quality of the show itself instead of its competitors. However, according to TV-Aholic Dynasty is actually favored between the 25-54 ages demographic as it has a 0.3 rating. Although this overlaps with the standard 18-49 audience, it still proves that the show’s content appeals more to an older audience. Furthermore, TV Line announced that Dynasty’s first season would run a total of 22 episodes continuing after the fall finale. This is the only new fall series that CW will be renewing as Valor will be discontinued at 13 episodes. The news came as a surprise to most because the overall ratings for Valor have consistently been higher than Dynasty. It seems likely that this decision was made due to CW’s previous deal with Netflix to air the series.
