Young Sheldon #10

Young Sheldon has aired three since their second premier on their second. The ratings have been as followed:

11/9: 2.2 rating with 12.31 viewers

11/16: 2.1 rating with 11.7 viewers

11/23: 2.6 rating with 11.28 viewers.

There was an evident continuous decline in both viewership and ratings for Young Sheldon. However, as the the fifth episode just aired on Thanksgiving, Thursday November 23, the ratings and viewership increased. This is the best it has done since its premier on September 25. With Thanksgiving football, the NFL broadcast during the late-afternoon on CBS, boosted the shows on that Thursday night (Young Sheldon included).

Young Sheldon aired following the L.A. Chargers vs Dallas Cowboys game on CBS in the afternoon. With such a large following on this game, Young Sheldon experienced high ratings and viewership. In fact, this is the highest their numbers have been for their Thursday night time slot. The show experienced a 30% rise since the week prior. Shows that followed Young Sheldon such as Mom, Life in Pieces, and S.W.A.T, also experienced in increase (28%, 18%, 22%, respectively.)

An increase in rating and viewership can be seen for this week.

NBC has been reported to have “won” thanksgiving primetime with 4.2 rating and 14.4 million viewers. However, CBS came in second with 1.8 rating and 8.13 million viewers. The CW, on the other hand, suffered with some of their shows reaching a series low with 0.3 rating.

This is an exciting week for Young Sheldon. Thanksgiving Thursday Night Football boosted the show overall and I hope to see a continuation of this rise next week.

Young Sheldon #9

This past Thursday, Young Sheldon aired its second episode on CBS. The show received an average 2.4 rating in adults 18-49 with 13.29 viewers. The show slipped in numbers since the premier (3.8 in 18-49 and 17.28 viewers) but still remains strong. With seven day returns included in the numbers of the pilot episode, it earned an average 5.5 rating for adults 18-49 and has been watched by a whopping 22.5 million viewers!

As it followed The Big Bang Theory, Young Sheldon retained 90% of that audience for their second episode. Overall, on Thursday, CBS won the night with a 1.9 for adults 18-49 and just under 10 million viewers followed by ABC.  It was a successful night for CBS as their first week of programming following the end of Thursday Night Football.

Young Sheldon already has a full order season and is tied in second with The Good Doctor for falls top rated series premier.

Show creator, Chuck Lorre has made it clear that while it is the prequel to The Big Bang Theory, they want Young Sheldon to be its own independent show.

I am curious to see if the numbers will remain consistently high or if there will be dramatic changes for the series.

Young Sheldon #8

At last, this Thursday, Young Sheldon returns on CBS at 8:30/7:30c. The show will follow The Big Bang Theory, of which the show is a spin off of. With such a strong lead in, we can expect the same large number of audience members we saw on September 25 when the show first aired. Other shows airing at the same time include Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Place, and Gotham. Fortunately, Young Sheldon brings in a different audience so this should not affect their viewership. As a reminder, the season premier of Young Sheldon drew in 17.2 million viewers and a 3.8 rating in the 18-49 demographic!! Young Sheldon’s original time slot of Monday at 8:30/7:30c has been taken by the new sitcom 9JKL. Both The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon have moved to Thursdays with Young Sheldon airing after Thursday Night Football has ended. I look forward to watching the second episode and following the reviews prior!

Young Sheldon #7

There has not been a new episode of Young Sheldon for a month now. No new information has been released about the TV show. There have not been any new reviews or articles written since the week of the premier (Sept.25), however, a new article was released stating that Mike and Molly star, Billy Gardell will appear as a guest star. He will play Sheldon’s neighbor.

My thoughts are that the show runners, are releasing new information about the show, bit by bit, to keep Young Sheldon on people’s radar by providing new exciting information. This makes consumers more inclined to watch. However, this is the first piece of new information released about the show and I am not expecting much more information before the second episode on November 2nd.

Aside from several commercials on CBS channel and their social media page, I would never know the show existed. This could be, perhaps, because I live in Syracuse, New York and television is not really advertised.  Whereas if I were in Los Angeles, I am sure there would be posters on every block.

This week’s post is lacking some content as there is not much left to speak on without new information. Once Young Sheldon airs again, I will have extensive blog posts so stay tuned!

Young Sheldon #6

Wow, it’s hard to believe we’re already 6 weeks into the semester. I am waiting patiently as Young Sheldon does not come on again until November 2nd.

While I hate to focus on only the negative, for this blog post I want to look at what criticism has been said about Young Sheldon’s first episode.

Although it received an impressive 3.7 rating in adults 18-49 and had 16.6 million viewers, there  are a plethora of negative reviews going around.

TV critic, Danielle Feinberg expressed his opinion in a Hollywood Reporter piece, “context is important for Sheldon to be tolerable.” Such a remark applies to someone like me, who has never watch The Big Bang Theory. He also said “I think Young Sheldon will also be a better show the more it leans on Sheldon’s sister, Missy.” I am interested to see the personality of this character and how she can strengthen the series as a whole.

The buzz around the TV show has remained pretty quiet for the past month since the premier so there is not much of an update on viewership and ratings.

Young Sheldon #5

In today’s post, I am going to look at the social media content surrounding Young Sheldon which premiered on Sept. 25 and returns on November 7th for the second episode.

Social media is incredibly important in today’s society and influences media consumers tremendously. It is important for the show to have a large social media presence, but it is also important for the cast members to be active on social media.

Through social media, audience members can interact with each other about the latest episodes, and ratings. Research has even shown a correlation between TV show ratings and social media followings.

Young Sheldon has 12.6K Twitter followers, 299K on Facebook , and 30.K followers on their Instagram Page. Each page puts up new content daily, this is important to reach audience members who have yet to hear about the show.

Iain Armitage, who plays young Sheldon, has 12.6K followers on Twitter, 19.2K on Facebook, and 53.4K followers on his Instagram page. Iain’s mother, who runs his social media pages, makes sure to post daily, with videos pictures, and “retweets” from the Young Sheldon Twitter account. He is continuously engaging fans through his posts and even communicates with them.

I am interested to say how Young Sheldon’s following increases (or even decreases) as the season continues. I myself, will be tweeting updates about the season on my own twitter page @jordancramer4.

These are the 10 most popular shows on social media for the 2016-2017 TV season according to Nielsen.

Young Sheldon #4

This past Monday, September 25, Young Sheldon aired after the 11th season premier of The Big Bang Theory. The BBT received a 3.9 in 18-49 and had 17 million viewers, slightly higher than season 10.

I was not surprised to hear about Young Sheldon’s successful first episode. With tons of advertising on the CBS network, especially during The Emmys, it was quite obvious when to tune in to the premier.

17.2 million people watched Young Sheldon. The show received a 3.8 in 18-49 and is considered the biggest comedy show premier on a network since 2 Broke Girls in 2011. Kevin Can Wait, which held Young Sheldon’s time slot last September for their series premier, only received 2.6 in 18-49 and  11.2 million viewers.

Critics applaud the decision to switch from a multi-camera to a single-camera format. However, some critics also criticize the characters in the series calling Sheldon’s siblings “one-dimensional” and “annoying.” Of course there will not be only positive feedback on a show as someone always has negative input.

Overall, reviews seem to be calling the show a “success” and a series worth watching. Young Sheldon will not be returning until November 2nd, post football, on Thursday nights at 8:30 PM. This month long break in between the first episode and the second, gives people the opportunity to tune in if they haven’t already.

Young Sheldon #3

With Young Sheldon premiering in just two short days, I want to look at predictions and expectations for the series.

There is no doubt the premier will do amazing as it airs right after the 11th season premier of The Big Bang Theory. These fans will more than likely hang around to watch Young Sheldon at 8:30. The show will also be advertised during commercials on CBS all day.

According to a study done by IPSOS TV Dailies, which poled 6,000 TV watchers between the ages of 18 and 49 over the past three weeks, Young Sheldon has an awareness rate of 36.1% while shows like Will and Grace have 66.5%. Young Sheldon falls way above shows like 9JKL with 9.4%. These numbers do not reflect how the season will do so I still remain very hopeful that Young Sheldon will be a top hit Fall series.  I look forward to tuning in Monday night at 8:30 PM on CBS. I will be live tweeting. Follow me @jordancramer4

Young Sheldon #2

This week, I want to focus on how Young Sheldon plans to differentiate itself from The Big Bang Theory.  The Big Bang Theory used multiple cameras and a live audience. Whereas, Young Sheldon will be using a single camera and there will not be a live studio audience. Show creator, Chuck Lorre, uses this technique to give a more “intimate” effect for viewers.

Another reason for removing the live studio audience is to make the set more comfortable for the young actors in the series. It also stops the actors from having to stop and wait for laughter/applause from the audience on set which can be awkward.

Lorre admits he was a “nervous wreck” about the switch to single camera from the multi-camera technique he is used to. He explained how the filming process is much different and slower paced.

Young Sheldon also differs from The Big Bang Theory as it is using narration. Chuck Lorre got much of his inspiration for narration from the show Wonder Years.

Lorre has a great reputation in the television industry and I have no doubt Young Sheldon will be another success for the television writer.
