Raise your hand if you miss our four besties as much as I do! Every Thursday for the past month has been super hard with the absence of my favorite activity- lounging around at 9pm cracking up at Will, Grace, Karen, and Jack being their ridiculous selves. Thank gosh for hulu because I’ve been able to fill that void and watch old re-runs. I don’t know who’s with me (I’m guessing everyone!) but I’m itching for some new content. Well, just call me santa clause because I have the best present of all! It may not be Thursday night, but Tuesday, December 5th, they are back baby! And… this is no regular episode; we have got something special on our hands! Next week is a Christmas episode! I’m so excited to tune into this special episode and see what we have in store. Ratings predictions: as long as they market the new time, ratings are going way up. I mean who doesn’t love a good old Christmas special- crazy people, that’s who.

9JKL # 11
9JKL Gives Thanks
(For more episodes)
It’s that time of year for Thanksgiving specials and apparently, 9JKL’s Thanksgiving special paid off because as of Friday, according to Deadline, CBS ordered three more episodes.
It’s like going back for the mashed potatoes but not the whole meal… yet. But still, those potatoes are amazing and that’s good news for 9JKL whose ratings, even with the time change, have remained steady. People have found their comfort food on Monday night.
Their “Make Thanksgiving Great Again” episode reminded all of us of the family dynamics of the holiday. Mark’s character Josh is finally back for his first Thanksgiving home in a while. He cancels his parent’s reservations at a local restaurant and his sister-in-law agrees to cook the turkey in doing so going back to tradition but throwing a new tradition out the door. This, of course, leads to more comedic moments in the series that apparently the top brass could relate to as they gave it more time to roast.
Next week will be following the holiday season and has the potential to adjust viewership. Or not, 9JKL is one of those shows whose ratings have become pretty predictable in the last month landing at a 4.4 / 0.8.
Valor #11
After seven episodes aired, reviews on ‘Valor’ seem to describe the show as overdramatic and typically a bit silly. Since last week, the ratings in the key 18-49 demographic only increased from 0.19 to 0.2, finishing with 1 million viewers. Although these numbers are higher than the previous week’s, the numbers remain relatively low.
Because of these ratings, the CW Network has announced it will not be picking up any additional episodes of ‘Valor’ past the already ordered 13. According to Deadline Hollywood, the network announced a full season order for their other new series ‘Dynasty,’ but has officially opted out of additional ‘Valor’ episodes. As far as another season for the military drama, the CW will analyze the SVOD data for the show and use those statistics to determine weather or not to pick up ‘Valor’ for a second season.
Television review sites like “The Tracking Board” argue that Valor’s silly storylines make it difficult to feel sympathy for the characters. However, other critics feel as though the dramatic plot is the key component that keeps the show on brand with the CW Network, which typically airs SOAP-type dramas such as ‘Jane the Virgin.” And because a military show is distinctly different from the typical programming on this specific network, the dramatic characters and storylines are what connect the show to CW fans. However, maybe the plot has proven to be too silly, and ultimately the ratings have led the network to opt-out of additional episode pickups.
Will & Grace #10
Will & Grace became a hit long before the social media era. There was no twitter or instagram when they came out and they did all the marketing the old fashioned way. The revival of the show had me worried that they would stick to their old ways, but I’m happy to say that I’m wrong. Not only does the show have a rockin’ instagram with great behinds the scenes that gets fans riled up, but our four best friends post just as much to get their followers invested in what’s coming up on the show!
This is a great tactic for the show because everyone loves to see how the sausage is made, and just because that wasn’t a viable option the first time around, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be now. The cast gives us selfies, greenroom shots, and all around fun times with the cast to get the fans excited. My personal favorite touch is when the cast members, like Megan Mullally pots teasers for upcoming episodes to get fans to tune into the fun stuff they have coming this week.
The Good Doctor #11 – C7 Success
Last week, ‘The Good Doctor’ returned and did as usual. It got a 1.9 rating in the 18-49 demo beating both, ‘The Brave’ and ‘Scorpion,’ which got their usual, 1.0 and 0.8 ratings, respectively. ‘The Good Doctor’ averaged a total of 10.5 million viewers maintaining its constant viewership rate over the course of the fall season.
Advertisers have been keeping an eye on this successful run. The focus of advertisers used to be the C3 ratings, but they have noticed that the numbers in the C7 category are more encouraging. While C3 viewership increases almost a quarter of a million viewers, viewership in the C7 category increases more than half a million viewers. ‘The Good Doctor’ wins this particular race with an increase of 48% percent in the C7 category going from an average L+SD rating of 2.1 to an average C7 rating of 3.1 in the 18-49 demo during the first three weeks of the fall season.
‘The Good Doctor’ is one of the few shows that average more viewers in delayed viewing than live. It presents itself as a valuable asset for ABC to sell to advertisers due to its multi-platform success.

Ghosted #9
After seven episodes, it’s time to check in on the ratings progress of Fox’s new sitcom. Ghosted got off to a fairly strong start and has retained solid numbers for the most part. However, this past week saw the biggest ratings dip of the season, down to just a .8 in the demo and 1.9 million total viewers. However, The Simpsons saw a similar decline, down 42% from last week. These negative changes might be attributed to an inevitable drop from last week’s surge as well as increased competition from the American Music Awards and a big NFL matchup.
The Orville # 10 — Season Cut Short
Since the renewal announcement that came a week and a half ago regarding Fox’s The Orville series starring Seth MacFarlane, a puzzling piece of news has come out this week: this season of The Orville will be getting cut short. The premiere season was originally intended to run thirteen episodes will be cut down to twelve. Even though this is not a substantial change, the plot was originally scheduled to be spread out over thirteen episodes. The change is happening due to changes in programming. Fox’s programmer’s decided that it would make the most sense to wrap up the show before the holidays and allow for season two to premiere next September. This news scared some fans of the show as they thought that it could be signs of trouble even given the renewal news. Good news for them, the ratings are still hovering around the 1.0 mark for the series, the same numbers that granted the show the renewal in the first place.
Valor #10
A week after the impressive spike in ratings, ‘Valor’ is back to under a million viewers for the November 13th episode. After the highest viewership out of all the episodes aired thus far in the season, the most recent episode ranked 0.19 after bringing in .94 million viewers. Not including the past week’s successful episode, ‘Valor’ has continuously seen under a million viewers—not a hopeful number for the sixth week of airing.
Although the CW Network is not expected to rank in the millions of viewers major networks like NBC and ABC can, other shows on the CW prove there is a wider audience than ‘Valor’ is able to retain. For example, ‘The Flash’ has scored over 2 million viewers tuning into the CW for the show. Both ‘Supernatural’ and Riverdale’ continuously bring in over 1.5 million viewers for the network during their scheduled time. And so while the viewership for the CW is typically dramatically lower than those of other major networks, ‘Valor’ is remaining one of the lowest rated series on the network. And while the previous week’s spike seemed hopeful, the return back to under a million threatens the survival of the show.
As far as social media, actress Christina Ochoa has continued to post to her Instagram using the #WednesdayWarrios and #MissionMonday to engage her followers both personally and professionally. She does a great job balancing her social media profiles with photos from her personal life and pictures on set to promote the cast and themes of the military show.
SEAL Team #10 – Managing Actors and Their Abilities
SEAL Team requires a lot from its actors. The stunts and the emotional acting and take a large toll on them. In an interview with Denver’s DJ Sixsmith, David Boreanaz discussed the mental and physical requirements he faces to be on the show. While it is possible to get the best out of Boreanaz, the constant stunts and drama play a role on actors. This can cause problems when it comes to scheduling the show and ensuring the production days are efficient as possible. When looking at how this would impact the business side of television, this requires an effective production manager who understands the needs of the actors. If extra days are required to make up for an actors inefficiency, then the show loses more money. From the ratings and the full-season order, it is safe to say that the production manager has been doing a great job on the show.
Looking at the ratings for the November 8th episode, SEAL Team’s ratings bumped back up with 6.22 million viewers and a 0.9 Adults 18-49 rating. The viewership most likely spiked up because this was a new episode and the World Series was not on Wednesday.
Will & Grace #9
Will & Grace may be done for its fall season with 6 incredible episodes, but that does not mean they are done. This reboot has done better than anyone expected and I suspect that the reason is because they “are brining nostalgia back”.
As if fans aren’t pleased enough with having their four favorite fabulous friends back together, the way Will & Grace is bringing in an amazing amount of viewers each week is by bringing in old favorites to raise that nostolog-meter up and playing off of fan favorites.
The show has brought back not only great characters, but A-list actors to warm the hearts of old viewers and draw them back in. Some of the greats like Harry Connick JR. playing his infamous role of Leo, Minni Driver as Karen’s mortal enemy Lorraine Finster, and Leslie Jordan as Beverly Leslie have been brought back to make the show as great as it is.
As an old fan how could you not tune into your favorite show when they bring back your favorite cameos. It’s smart Will & Grace is playing in as many old facts as possible in order to get and keep the fans they once had.
