The Catch Post #8

Since the exit of showrunners back in August, Shondaland had to re-shoot the pilot episode with Peter Krause. The show is premiering next week on March 24th at 10pm. It will be taking the place of How to Get Away With Murder which is another #TGIT Shondaland show. According to TVGuide.com, it will be premiering with NBC’s Game of Silence and CBS’s Rush Hour. They are all new shows this season with the 10pm time slot.

On ABC, there has been heavy advertisement for The Catch especially during commercial breaks for Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder. ABC has been using all of its affiliates to advertise for the show including ABC Family which is now Freeform. The network has been running the promo a week after it premiered on ABC in December. Also, when watching episodes form other shows on ABC.go.com, when you pause the video, the promo for The Catch is the still screen until you press play again. On tvbythenumbers.com, all of the Shondaland shows have been renewed for another season which leaves high expectations for The Catch.

ABC’s The Catch – Post 3

With the recent release of the official trailer, The Catch has gained over 1,500 followers on Facebook which lands them at 28,533 followers today. Their Twitter is in the low range of 3,777 but the premiere date is more than a month away so those numbers may rise closer to March 24th. The show’s first major promotional spot was last Thursday during the #TGIT lineup winter premiere night. The Catch will be joining the lineup taking the place of How To Get Away With Murder and being led in by The Family at 9:00pm which premieres on March 3rd then the local news afterwards at 11:00pm.

It does have to compete with shows with older followings like Elementary on CBS and Shades of Blue on NBC. Both shows also have strong female leads but what their advantages come with female leads who are veterans in a primetime slot. Jennifer Lopez’s (34.8 million followers) notoriety for Shades of Blue helps the show maintain a loyal fan base with a collective Twitter following for the show at 16k. Elementary (which premiered in 2012) has a Twitter following of over 66k and Lucy Liu’s (181k followers) fan base has been a great support for the show. Mireille Enos’ Twitter was created in January 2016 (most likely for the show) and only has 431 followers. The three tweets that she has are about The Catch; two Instagram posts and one post announcing the premiere date. Hopefully social media will help this show live up to the #TGIT powerhouses built by Shonda Rhimes.

Shonda Rhimes has done it again! Premiering March 24th at 10pm on ABC, the new crime drama The Catch will be joining the #TGIT line up taking the place of Rhimes’ other hit show, How to Get Away With Murder. Alice Vaughn is a forensic accountant in LA who specializes in cases for high profiled frauds. But when her fiancé cons her out of millions and disappears weeks before their wedding, her new focus is finding him and regaining her funds. Unfortunately, its discovered that he was in a master con plan with another woman while still falling for his mark: Alice.

Alice is played by Mirielle Enos who is best known for her Emmy and Golden Globe nominated role in AMC’s hit drama The Killing. Another familiar face within the cast is Bethany Joy Lenz from CW’s One Tree Hill. According to ABC.com and Imbd.com, Peter Krause from NBC’s Parenthood would be playing Alice’s fiancé Kieran Booth but the show’s trailer depicts an up and coming actor named Damon Dayoub who played a reoccurring role in Freeform’s Stitchers.

Production for the show is taking place in LA at the ABC Studios and Shondaland. Rhimes is the executive producer but is also partnering with Betsy Beers. Beers has worked as a producer on Rhimes other ABC hit Grey’s Anatomy which will air before The Catch on #TGIT at 9pm.

Allegiance Week Four

The Future of “Allegiance” Looks Bleak

The ratings continued to fall further this week for NBC’s “Allegiance”.  The show pulled in a .8 rating in 18-49 with a 3 share and 3.36 million total viewers, down from last week’s also low .9 rating.  This week the Thursday 10 o’clock hour looked a little different than usual.  “Allegiance” was slated up against the Victoria’s Secret Swim Special on CBS which did slightly better with a 1.0 rating/ 3 share and 4.02 million total viewers in 18-49. ABC had a special two hour Season 1 finale episode of  “How to Get Away with Murder” from 9-11, which pulled in 8.97 million total viewers for a 2.8 rating/9 share.  It will be interesting to see how the numbers of “The Blacklist” and “Allegiance” are affected now that “How to Get Away with Murder” is off until the fall.  “American Crime” will be premiering in the time slot next week which seems like it will be relatively successful from the reviews.  “Elementary” will be back on at its normal time next week as well.

Allegiance is bringing in Giancarlo Esposito who was in Breaking Bad as a new character in March to play an enemy.  In response to that, they did a live Facebook Q&A with him this past Thursday.  The Q&A generated only a little activity.  There were about 70 questions asked and the post got 266 likes.  Seeing as their social media activity is usually so low, I think it would benefit them to do more of these fan engagement types of Facebook and Twitter things instead of posting random promotional graphics sporadically throughout the week.  They seem to be engaging more than before with fans on Twitter and have been retweeting more fan posts, which doesn’t really do much but shows activity.

Here’s the preview for the episode with Giancarlo Esposito:
