Station 19 #9

Station 19 is on its second week and the ratings grew on Thursday night, compared to the previous week’s two hour 9-11 pm launch (1.2 vs. 1.1), which is rare for a debuting show. Station 19 took the No. 1 spot at 9pm on the 29th and was ABC’s biggest overall viewing in that timeslot since Premiere week, earlier in the year. As Station 19 marks Shonda Rhimes last new show with ABC before moving to Netflix, it is showing a promising trajectory with viewers, and is more successful then her other new show, For the People.

During the second episode of Station 19, the hashtag #Station19 was not trending, however the Shonda Rhimes #TGIT twitter was at the top throughout the night. The Station 19 twitter has been relatively active on days of the show, posting gifs with quotes to get interaction with fans

Station 19 #8

“Station 19” premiered with an average of 1.1 rating among adults 18-49 for its two-hour premiere, which was below NBC’s “Chicago Fire” which was 1.2 for both hours in the demographic. “Fire” had more total viewers overall, averaging 6.88 million over the two hours compared to “Station 19”’s 5.42 million. “Station 19” was premiering against non-time zone adjusted NCAA games, which might have been a reason for the lower viewership.  “Grey’s Anatomy” was the lead-in to “Station 19” which pulled a 1.9 rating among adults 18-49 and 7.5 million viewers, coming in second place right after college basketball. These numbers for “Station 19” are not up to par with what ABC had predicted, but still hoping that viewership grows in the next week, especially with “Scandal” and “How to Get Away with Murder” having their season finales soon. This is the first-time Shonda Rhimes has showed a Latina leading one of her shows, which is a shift from the black and white heroine’s viewers are used to seeing. Andy Herrera, the main character, shows that Latinas are more than their stereotypes of “spicy” eye candy and irritating supporting roles, and are strong woman who are the same as everybody else. As for press, Herrera talked to E! News for an exclusive first look at the poster and talked about her character on the show.

Station 19 #3

#Station19 has had more traction this week as they have begun shooting and posting pictures. Wendy Calhoun, a producer for Station 19, tweeted a picture of the real life firefighter tech and stunt crew, showing their incorporation of real life heroes into the show. Even though the post did not receive a lot of attention, I think this is an important factor of the show that will most likely be brought up in interviews and press tours. In regards to the buzz around the show, ABC has announced that Grey’s Anatomy and Station 19 will be having a crossover episode on March 1st, titled “You Really Got a Hold On Me.”. This will be a great introduction to the Station 19 actors and will be airing before the Scandal and How To Get Away with Murder crossover episode. It will be a full night for #TGITCrossover and will garner a lot of social media attention.

Station 19 #1

Grey’s Anatomy Spinoff: Station 19 will be a ten-episode drama which follows a team of firefighters as they complete a twenty-four-hour shift. It will be set in a Seattle firehouse and follow everybody from the captain to the newest recruit as the show revolves around these brave men and women risking their lives and their hearts both in the line of duty and off the clock. Also, Station 19 is just a few blocks from Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital, which will still allow for romances between the two shows. Shondaland’s idea for expansion of the Grey’s franchise is quite like that of Dick Wolf’s Chicago dramas at NBC which follow firefighters, paramedics, cops, doctors and Das all in the same city, allowing for easy crossovers. As Grey’s Anatomy completes its thirteenth season and remains ABC’s highest rated series, it has had a successful spinoff with Private Practice which lasted for six seasons, giving this new spinoff high hopes for a successful run. Stacy McKee, who has worked on Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, and How to Get Away with Murder will write and executive produce the series alongside Shonda Rhimes. Station 19 will be targeted towards Grey’s Anatomy and Shondaland fans, which is a pretty big and diverse fan base with her shows continuously being the highest rated ABC shows. The new spinoff will be included in the Shonda Thursdays following Grey’s Anatomy in the slow that was previously occupied by Scandal.

The Catch Post #9

The day has come and gone but unfortunately The Catch did not do as well as a Shondaland original. When Grey’s Anatomy premiered in 2005, it rated 4.2 with 16.25 million viewers. When Scandal premiered in 2012, it rated 3.0 with 7.33 million viewers. When How to Get Away With Murder premiered in 2014, it rate 3.9 with 14.3 million viewers. When The Catch premiered, it rated 1.2 with 5.8 million viewers. It is now the lowest rating Shondaland show with the #TGIT brand. On March 24, the show had major competition with NBC’s Shades of Blue and cable network’s FX’s The Baskets season finale. But the largest competition was the NCAA Sweet 16 schedule. There were two major games playing that night. At 9:40 p.m. on CBS, No. 1 Kansas played No. 4 Maryland and ranked at 2.1 with 6.55 million viewers. There was another NCAA game on TBS that premiered at 9:55 p.m.

According to Forbes and TV By the Numbers, ABC has been declining in the 18-149 demographics from a 2.4 in 2014 to a 2.1 by the end of 2015. The network has been looking to Shonda Rhimes and her arsenal of hit shows to keep ABC afloat. With The Catch premiering with such low numbers, its concerning to ABC but also Shondaland since The Catch has not been scheduled for renewal for a new season.

ABC’s The Catch Post 4

(ABC/Richard Cartwright) MIREILLE ENOS, PETER KRAUSE

The tag line of The Catch is the “sexiest game of cat and mouse” which is due to the riveting relationship between Mirielle Enos and Peter Krause characters Alice and Benjamin. The chemistry between the two has been heavily talked about since both come from less sexually-risque television shows (Parenthood and The Killing). The promo has characterized Krause as cunning and a master manipulator. Enos is portrayed as a determined and powerful woman who will do anything to catch her man.

On February 12th, ABC.com updated the show’s profile and released photos of teasers for the the season. This gives audiences a much needed visual of what the cast looks like together and it heightens the anticipation of the plot of the show. The next step will be active blogs and behind the scenes clips on the show’s website. Those will appear closer to the premiere date which is March 24th at 10:00 pm which will be replacing the other Shonda Rhimes hit How to Get Away with Murder.

Shonda Rhimes has done it again! Premiering March 24th at 10pm on ABC, the new crime drama The Catch will be joining the #TGIT line up taking the place of Rhimes’ other hit show, How to Get Away With Murder. Alice Vaughn is a forensic accountant in LA who specializes in cases for high profiled frauds. But when her fiancé cons her out of millions and disappears weeks before their wedding, her new focus is finding him and regaining her funds. Unfortunately, its discovered that he was in a master con plan with another woman while still falling for his mark: Alice.

Alice is played by Mirielle Enos who is best known for her Emmy and Golden Globe nominated role in AMC’s hit drama The Killing. Another familiar face within the cast is Bethany Joy Lenz from CW’s One Tree Hill. According to ABC.com and Imbd.com, Peter Krause from NBC’s Parenthood would be playing Alice’s fiancé Kieran Booth but the show’s trailer depicts an up and coming actor named Damon Dayoub who played a reoccurring role in Freeform’s Stitchers.

Production for the show is taking place in LA at the ABC Studios and Shondaland. Rhimes is the executive producer but is also partnering with Betsy Beers. Beers has worked as a producer on Rhimes other ABC hit Grey’s Anatomy which will air before The Catch on #TGIT at 9pm.

Secrets and Lies – Post 6

March 22 saw Secrets and Lies reel in its second highest rating since the show premiered on March 1. The 1.5 rating in the key 18-49 demographic was a 0.13 gain from the week prior. The show has been consistent in its audience topping at least 5.4 million viewers each week.

The show is a production of ABC Studios and was created by Barbie Kligman. A Shonda Rhimes disciple, Kligman previously served as executive producer and co-head writer on Private Practice and The Vampire Diaries.

ABC ordered 10 episodes of the Secrets and Lies, but signed a two-year contract with Kligman in case the show goes into a second season, according to Deadline Hollywood. The murder mystery is yet to be canceled, but it is also yet to be renewed.
