The Catch Post #6

TVline.com dropped the most recent promo for ABC’s The Catch. Twitter tweeted on February 28th at 10:05 PM “The sexiest game of cat and mouse is coming to television! #TheCatch premieres Thursday, March 24.”. The promo is described as “a teasey tango, to be exact” (TVline.com). It stars Mireille Enos as Alice Vauhan dancing in a very sultry way with Peter Krause as her con-artist fiance who happens to be her prey. The promo premiered during the Oscars which was more than convenient since there were a total of 34.3 million people watching. It also helped that Mireille Enos tweeted about the promo and how it was “the best dance lesson I got @MarkBallas #TheCatch #ShondaLand #march24”.

ABC’s The Catch Post 4

(ABC/Richard Cartwright) MIREILLE ENOS, PETER KRAUSE

The tag line of The Catch is the “sexiest game of cat and mouse” which is due to the riveting relationship between Mirielle Enos and Peter Krause characters Alice and Benjamin. The chemistry between the two has been heavily talked about since both come from less sexually-risque television shows (Parenthood and The Killing). The promo has characterized Krause as cunning and a master manipulator. Enos is portrayed as a determined and powerful woman who will do anything to catch her man.

On February 12th, ABC.com updated the show’s profile and released photos of teasers for the the season. This gives audiences a much needed visual of what the cast looks like together and it heightens the anticipation of the plot of the show. The next step will be active blogs and behind the scenes clips on the show’s website. Those will appear closer to the premiere date which is March 24th at 10:00 pm which will be replacing the other Shonda Rhimes hit How to Get Away with Murder.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Post #11

Empire’s return became an immediate threat to other Wednesday shows and their channels when it first rebooted a couple weeks ago. CBS became the third watched channel last week, while Empire’s 18-34 ratings maintained a high 11.49 and beat out all of FOX’s Wednesday shows and other channels that aired their shows as well.

When Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders started to dip from 1.6 all the way to 1.2 due to FOX’s reboot of Empire at 8pm (Before Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders on CBS at 10pm), it became clear that Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders’s ratings are starting to fluctuate based on how spread out their 18-34 ratings have been.

TVbythenumbers stated that its low 1.2 rose to a 1.46 last week (April 13) and that the seasons average so far is a 1.38. Survivor is still the top watched show on CBS on Wednesdays (with their consistency of a 18-34 rating around 1.8 and 1.9), but despite Survivors constant popularity, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders still holds its own with its big leap from a low 1.2 18-34 rating from its April 6th showing, to a 1.46 rating last week. The sudden rise in ratings shows that there may be still hope for the show to survive as it still battles against Survivor and Empire on FOX.

The Family — Post #6

ABC’s The Family received another mediocre rating of 0.8 for its new episode this past Sunday, with 3.15 million viewers.  The viewership total was very similar to the week prior, with only a slight uptick.  However, it still marks the highest rating and viewership total for the show in four weeks, and progress is progress, despite the numbers still being significantly lower than they were for the debut episode.

There is still no word on whether or not the series will be cancelled or renewed.  This season is set to have a “season finale” rather than a series finale, and there has been no indication that the show was meant to last only one season.  Furthermore, the reviews for the show are still solid on many sites, such as the 7.4/10 it has on IMDb and the 7.6/10 it has on TV.com.  Time will tell if ABC decides to renew The Family, though with a mix of mediocre ratings but generally favorable reviews, its status really remains up in the air at this point.

Cooper’s Guide — Post #10

The outlook for Cooper’s Guide has gone from bad to worse.  The show received another dismal rating this past Sunday, with a 0.5 rating and 1.09 million viewers.  However, that’s not the worst news regarding the show.

The next new episode of the show is set to air at its regular time at 7:30 next Sunday.  After that, its future is bleak.  The episode that was set to air on April 24th has instead been pre-empted by Fox in favor of a Simpsons re-run to lead into a new episode of The Simpsons.  The following week, on May 1st, Fox will be airing the American Country Countdown Awards from 8-10PM with a lead-in of animated series such as Bob’s Burgers.  That means the next new episode of Cooper’s Guide may not air until May 8th, if its even airs at all.  Fox could very well scrap the comedy by then, resulting in three episodes that were produced but could never air.  At this point the writing seems to be on the wall for the show, and cancellation seems likely, if not imminent.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders #10

With Empire still leading as the top watched show on Wednesday nights, with 11.33 million viewers and a 4.2/14 rating amongst 18-34 year olds, and with Survivor on air the same night (Surviver has been having a constant rating within the 9.0 range), Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders has been up against some real competition.  Tvbythenumbers.com explained that Empire and American Idol were the only shows that went up by a tenth in ratings, while Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders suffered against the competition between Empire and American Idol’s closing episode.

American Idol’s performance on FOX went up to 2.2 from a 2.1 rating for adults between 18-34. Empire’s ratings still beat out all of the other shows ratings that aired on Wednesday, even though its 4.2 rating for 18-34 was a 0.6 drop from its 12.5 percent rating when it first returned. As a result, Empire’s leading ratings among 18-34 year olds made FOX’s channel the #1 watched channel on Wednesday with an average rating for 18-34 year olds of 3.2/11. CBS’s channel with Survivor and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders were the third most watched shows, with an average rating among 18-34 year olds of 1.4/5. Overall, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders dropped by a tenth with a 1.2/4 with 6.94 viewers.

Though Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders saw their 18-34 year old rating drop by a tenth yet again, the reviews from IMBD are actually becoming more positive. When the show first premiered, it had a 5.7/10 rating, but now has a 5/8/10 rating. Their social media is still affective, but has focused more on posting Youtube videos from their Youtube channel onto their Twitter account (which has 739 subscribers now) of show sneak peaks, and cast interviews doing co-interviews with casts from the original Criminal Minds.

Lucifer Post #12

This week Lucifer brought in a rating/share of 1.1/3 and 3.47 million viewers. Although both rating and viewers are a little down from previous weeks, the series overall has shown a consistent rating/share since it’s premier back in January. Lucifer still remains the second highest rating in it’s time slot, with Scorpion taking the lead at a 1.6 rating and 8.49 million viewers. However, FOX finally announced that Lucifer has been renewed for a second season. The network did not release a date as to when it will begin, but sources say (Deadline and Sports Rageous) the production team wants to keep it a secret for now, so fans can anxiously await the announcement.

As for social media, the cast has vividly shown their excitement on Twitter and Facebook. Both cast and crew have expressed their gratitude to fans and critics for supporting the new series. Lead actor Tom Ellis, has personally thanked many fans for the love that they’ve shown throughout and states he will continue to make them proud from here on.

On Twitter, Ellis is now up to 118.1 thousand followers and has consistently tweeted about the series, especially it’s streaming on Amazon Video UK. Ellis’ co-star Lauren German, also has shown Twitter much love towards her fans. German actually now has more twitter followers than Ellis, racking in 118.7 thousand. However, regardless of followers, both stars have done an incredible job promoting the show and interacting with fans. Since Lucifer’s premier, both have been fully engaged in the fans thoughts and feelings towards each episode.

Lucifer Post #11

This week Lucifer aired a rerun of a previous episode and brought in a rating/share of 0.6/2 and 2.11 million viewers. Although this week was a rerun episode, the rating/share and viewers did drastically drop in comparison to previous weeks. However, despite this week’s ratings and reviews, Lucifer has been staying steady in both ratings and viewers when a new episode is aired. For the last three weeks the series remained at a 1.2 rating and roughly around 3.79 million viewers. Next week Lucifer will be airing a new episode so let’s hope it draws in more viewers and a rating above a 1.2.

Rush Hour- Post #10

We are now in the full swing of the season for CBS’s Rush Hour and unfortunately, it still has not met the critics appraisal. In its second week the show had a 0.9 rating with 4.81 million viewers according to tvbythenumbers.com. And while this rating may seem low, the fact that it is still reaching this many viewers on Thursday nights at 10 is impressive. The critics keep comparing the show to the movies, which is rightfully so, but I wonder if this makes them biased and fails to let them try and see the TV show as its own entity. To be fair, it is only in its second week, and it is competing nicely against ABC’s The Catch. The Catch had a 1.1 rating last week and 4.89 million viewers. This show was supposed to be ABC’s next hit too so maybe the problem for both of these shows is not the material, but maybe the time slot? Thursdays at 10 is quite late and Rush Hour is definitely aiming for a younger audience that may be in bed at that time. It will be interesting to see how Rush Hour does next week and if there is any buzz around it getting renewed or not for next season.

The Family — Post #5

The Family received a slight uptick in its rating, going from a 0.63 the previous week to a 0.7 for the episode that aired on April 3rd.  The viewership also increased from 2.61 million to 3.13 million viewers.  While these two increases are positive, the overall totals the last three weeks are still lower than the first three weeks–especially when compared to the series premiere.

However, a very positive thing that the show has going for it is its social media buzz.  Its number of followers on Twitter has increased to almost 18,000, and fans are speaking amongst themselves using the hashtag #TheFamily.  Apparently the plot twists in the show lead to much speculation and discussion, as most of the fan tweets seem to be reactions to these twists.  The tweets containing the hashtag get a decent number of retweets and likes as well, showing that fans of the show seem to look up the hashtag and interact with other fans, collectively sharing their reactions to the show.
