Second Chance Post #4

Second Chance continues to be a disappointment this week for FOX television. The show pulled in a 0.5 rating in the demo and had a total viewership of 2.15 million. It slipped one percentage point again this week, down 0.1 from last week and also lost about 0.1 million viewers.

Back in October, FOX cut its episode order down to 11 episodes, showing little faith in the show. This has continued with minimal promotion and the lack of a pronounced social media presence for the program.

Robert Kazinsky, the show’s lead, hasn’t even mentioned the show via his Twitter page since January 21st; nearly a month. He’s been actively promoting other bigger projects he’s working on instead. Dilshad Vadsaria, another cast member on the show, has been much more active. She constantly retweets the official show account and actively promotes it. She has around 30,000 followers which is certainly a wider potential reach than the Second Chance official Twitter account which has only a meager 3,898.

The Odd Couple: What the Critics Are Saying…

Well, after a less than triumphant return from its NCAA imposed hiatus, CBS has yet to announce whether The Odd Couple will make it on to the Fall 2015 schedule. Apart from losing three million viewers from before and after the hiatus, The Odd Couple has received overwhelmingly mixed reviews, leaning towards the negative side. In order to take a closer look at the reviews for The Odd Couple, I have consulted the online review aggregator, MetaCritic (http://www.metacritic.com/tv/the-odd-couple-2015).

According to MetaCritic, The Odd Couple has received 20 mixed reviews, 5 negative reviews and 1 positive review. Based upon the reviews of 26 professional print critics, MetaCritic has given The Odd Couple a score of 42. Here are some highlights from the critics:

Newsday’s Diane Werts best shared my sentiments, writing “Their [Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon’s] Odd Couple feels like the kind of time-filling time killer that’s chasing viewers to other options.”

Entertainment Weekly’s Jeff Jenson wrote, “There is a kind of bad show that might be the saddest kind of bad show. It’s the show that strands talented actors known for being funny on a sitcom that isn’t funny at all.” This confirms a number of the reviews which seem to feel that The Odd Couple has all of the elements of a successful series, but they all fail to come together in the end.

TV Guide’s Matt Roush, also felt that the show is an example of mediocrity, “There’s not a lot to love in this strained, often deafening update of the Neil Simon perennial.”

Therefore, coupled with the critics’ reaction and the low ratings, it looks like CBS should replace The Odd Couple with something that has more originality and substance, as well as the potential to become another 10 year-wonder like How I Met Your Mother and Two and a Half Men.

Weird Loners – Blog Post 7

Well folks, we’re off to the finish line.

   With less than two days before the show’s premiere, I was curious to see any development in how this show is seen in the industry. The jury is in and things aren’t looking very pretty for “Weird Loners.”

These three different news sources represent a whole sum of publications that have said nearly the same thing about this show…

   Forbes defines Weird Loners as a show that, “nowhere else in the schedule to go” and notes that, “the occasional sweetness isn’t enough to make one forget about the lack of interesting dynamic that currently exists.”

   The New York Times notes that while, “this is one show that you can drop in on just to grab a few laughs without feeling you have to invest your whole being in it,” the characters of the show, “will all soon be too old to carry the premise” if it becomes a hit.

   The St. Louis Post-Dispatch called this show as a show, “struggling to make viewers laugh” as well as wanna-be “Sex in the City” and “Friends.”

   Well, the future of this show isn’t very bright. I’ll tell you myself once I watch this Tuesday, March 31st, 9:30pm.
