Second Chance is a sci-fi/crime drama program airing on FOX. The show is based on Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein. A man is brought back to life in the body of a younger man to essentially relive his life and hopefully do better the second time around than he did in the bad paths he went down the first time. The show stars Robert Kazinsky in the lead role of Jimmy Pritchard and also stars Dilshad Vadsaria, Adhir Kalyan, Ciara Bravo, Tim DeKay, and Vanessa Lengies.
Interestingly enough, Second Chance aired first on the web on December 25th, 2015. That same episode only aired on TV the 13th of January 2016. Since the show’s launch, two episodes have aired. For this week, FOX has already moved Second Chance to Fridays at 9:00 p.m., taking the former spot of Hell’s Kitchen. Things are not looking good for the show. Even with an American Idol lead-in, Second Chance only pulled a 1.2 in its premiere episode and the second episode didn’t fare much better at a 1.0 rating. The move to Fridays almost certainly spells cancellation for the show.
“Blindspot” is a sci-fi/thriller/drama that stars Jamie Alexander (Thor, Rest Stop) and Sullivan Stapleton (300: Rise of an Empire). Alexander plays Jane Doe. A character who wakes up in the middle of Times Square with no recollection of herself or how she got there. Adding to the mysterious aura surrounding Doe she has tattoos all over her body, including a back tattoo of the name of, F.B.I. agent, Kurt Weller. Why does she have these tattoos all over her body? Specifically one of an F.B.I. agent? Where is she from? What is her real identity? You can find out when “Blindspot” premieres Monday, September 21st at 10pm on NBC.
“Blindspot” is taking the time slot of “Night Shift” from the Spring 2015 television season. Following NBC’s two hour block of “The Voice”, “Blindspot” goes up against the long running series, ABC’s “Castle” and CBS’s “NCIS: Los Angeles”. The pilot episode leaked online a month prior to the show’s premiere date, so it will be interesting to see how the ratings reflect that.
Secrets and Lies was preempted on Sunday, April 5 for ABC’s annual airing of The Ten Commandments. It is the first time since the show began that a new episode was not aired. The show returns to its regularly scheduled 9:00 p.m. time slot on Sunday, April 12.
ABC is yet to renew Secrets and Lies for a second season. The show seems to have a solid following, as week in and week out the viewership remains at about 5 million people. Much like the expert reviews, which greatly vary, audience opinion does too. The show has a Metascore of 48 on Metacritic based on 22 critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, the Secrets and Lies has a 36% score, with 21 people deeming the show rotten.
The Dovekeepers premiered on Tuesday night at 9 pm after a substantial publicity push throughout the day. The show premiered after the CBS juggernaut, NCIS, whose 18-49 rating was at a season low of 2.1/7 and 16.3 million total viewers. The Dovekeepers did not hold on to a significant portion of that audience, beginning it’s 2 night run with a 1.0/3 in the 18-49 demographic and 8.99 million total viewers. The show won both the time slots it occupied, both 9 and 10pm, and came in second in overall viewers for the night after NCIS. Though it overtook it’s closest time slot competitor, NBC’s Undateable, by 4 million viewers, it did have a weak performance in the 18-49. It’s 1.0 rating was one of the weakest of the night, only slimly beating a rerun of Chicago PD and the series premiere of Weird Loners.
Hopefully the second night, whose content was arguably stronger than the first, will carry the respectable audience the first night garnered and can finish out strong.
