VIxen #1

The Vixen is an animated action adventure series that started as a weekly 30 minute long web-series in August 2015 on CW Seed. After two season CW decided to compile the content and air it on Wednesday, August 30th at 8 PM as a 74 minute long movie. It’s based on the DC Character, Mari McCabe, a superhero crime-fighter who has the power to mimic any animal. Her parents were killed by local greed, corruption, and violence; so she fights to protect the world from threats like those.

It’s a spin off of The Flash and is set in the same world as The Flash, Arrow, and Legends of the Tomorrow. These shows have a huge following and by Vixen having that connection, plus having some of the stars of The Flash (Grant Gustin and Carlos Valdes) and Arrow (Stephen Amell and Katie Cassidy), they really grab in super fans to come watch. Not only does the star studded and loved cast bring in fans to watch but the directors of the show help on that front too. Curt Geda and James Tucker have done a lot of work with Batman bringing in more superhero fans.

Lucifer Post #14

This week Lucifer aired its season finale, which brought in a rating/share of 1.3/4 and 3.86 million viewers. Although these were the same numbers as the episode last week, the series did manage to increase from a 1.1 to 1.3 from a few weeks prior. Lucifer has now finished up season one and will begin working towards season two.

Since last nights episode, Twitter has been extremely active with fan tweeting about the shocking finale and all that is to come for next season. The Lucifer Twitter account is currently still posting short memes and clips about the finale, along with replying to fans consistently. As for lead actors Tom Ellis and Lauren German, they both continue replying back to fans and showing gratitude towards everyone who has supported them throughout.

In regards to Tom Ellis, he has done an exceptionally well job at promoting the series since it’s premier back in January. Not only has Ellis been promoting Lucifer through social media, he has maintained relationships with fans each week. When starting off the series, Ellis was at 97.6 thousands followers and now has 123.8 thousand. The official Lucifer Twitter account also has drastically increased in followers, first starting off with 24.8 thousand and now having 57.6 thousand. Both accounts have used social media to help promote the show and keep fans involved, which has been a great strategy.

Overall, with Lucifer coming to an end for season one, it is safe to say the series proved critics wrong. Before the show premiered, many critics, such as those on Rotten Tomatoes, stated Lucifer was going to shortly get cut and fail due to its story plot. However, despite its story line that some found offensive, Lucifer came in strong and moved its way to renewing another season. Regardless if the series brought in the highest rating for its Monday 9:00 PM time slot, Lucifer has maintained steady ratings and viewers since the beginning, and has shown to attached viewers from all around.

Rush Hour – Post #12

The time has finally come to say goodbye to my following of CBS’s Rush Hour. Normally, when you say goodbye to something, you know the fate of that person or thing. When it comes to saying goodbye to this show, I honestly do not know what the fate of it will be. It is very hard to tell because in its most recent airing, the show scored a 1.0 rating and 4.65 million viewers according to TvByTheNumbers.com. This viewership and rating score is higher than both of its competition on Thursday nights at 10pm, which leads me to believe that the show may survive and be renewed. This would come as a shock to myself and to CBS, who originally was rumored to be cancelling the show after its first season. These talks all came before the pilot episode even aired, but now that the show seems to be fairing pretty nicely, the fate can not be easily determined. Even though I will not be blogging about Rush Hour anymore, I will still be following the show over the course of the rest of the season to see what happens to it. The show means well, and I think a second season could really help it gain a bigger audience and help it succeed even more. CBS would be smart to renew Rush Hour.

Lucifer Post #13

On Monday, April 18th, Lucifer brought in a rating/share of 1.3/4 and 3.86 million viewers. Both ratings and viewers jumped up a tad from the week prior, which had a rating/share of 1.1/3, and 3.47 million viewers. As the season slowly comes to an end, it is great to the numbers increase. especially since Lucifer will be continuing onto season two.

In regards to how Lucifer has been doing during its time slot, well, it remains locking in the second highest scores during the Monday 9:00 slot. Since the premiere of the season, Lucifer has been struggling to beat Scorpion’s (CBS), rating/share and viewers. However, the series has still continued to bring in higher numbers than Jane the Virgin (The CW).

As for social media, both the Lucifer Twitter and Facebook page have continued to be very active with fans. Both social media accounts have showed tremendous enthusiasm towards the series being renewed. The cast of Lucifer has also been very attentive and responsive towards fans on their personal Twitter accounts. Many cast members continue to promote the series and interact with fans daily. Currently, cast members are tweeting and posting mainly about the season finale, which airs April 25th at 9:00 PM.

The Catch Post #9

The day has come and gone but unfortunately The Catch did not do as well as a Shondaland original. When Grey’s Anatomy premiered in 2005, it rated 4.2 with 16.25 million viewers. When Scandal premiered in 2012, it rated 3.0 with 7.33 million viewers. When How to Get Away With Murder premiered in 2014, it rate 3.9 with 14.3 million viewers. When The Catch premiered, it rated 1.2 with 5.8 million viewers. It is now the lowest rating Shondaland show with the #TGIT brand. On March 24, the show had major competition with NBC’s Shades of Blue and cable network’s FX’s The Baskets season finale. But the largest competition was the NCAA Sweet 16 schedule. There were two major games playing that night. At 9:40 p.m. on CBS, No. 1 Kansas played No. 4 Maryland and ranked at 2.1 with 6.55 million viewers. There was another NCAA game on TBS that premiered at 9:55 p.m.

According to Forbes and TV By the Numbers, ABC has been declining in the 18-149 demographics from a 2.4 in 2014 to a 2.1 by the end of 2015. The network has been looking to Shonda Rhimes and her arsenal of hit shows to keep ABC afloat. With The Catch premiering with such low numbers, its concerning to ABC but also Shondaland since The Catch has not been scheduled for renewal for a new season.

The Catch Post #7

“Caliber sex and scandalous acts”: those are the words to describe ABC’s #TGIT Thursdays. For The Catch, audiences hope that the show lives up to the reputation. First there was the teasey performance of the tango by the main characters Alice and Ben revealing the deception of the con but the love that is still there between the two. If that didn’t ooze sex appeal, the new promo is filled with smokey touches and gripping sex showing the extreme chemistry between the two. The promo was only available on iTunes but was released to all sectors of video outlets.

The show’s page on ABC.com has also been updated. There are new photos from the show and behind the scenes videos with commentary from the actors and actresses. The Twitter page for the show has gained over 10k more followers and Mirielle Enos has be responding to followers to thank for support.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders #12

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders numbers have been doing ok since its plummet due to American Idol’s last viewing. Now that American Idol is over, Criminal Minds: Border Borders went down from a 1.46/6 to a 1.3/4, which isn’t a huge downward dip. In fact, the show is still holding on and will probably be here to stay. For Criminal Minds: Beyond Border is still doing better than Chicago PD (0.8/0.3) and Nashville (which was the least favored show among 18-34 year olds with the same low rating of 0/8/3 last week). 18-34 ratings aside, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders hasn’t changed its time slot of 10pm on CBS and continues to be the top show to watch at 10pm on Wednesdays specifically.

The show’s continuous competition with shows like Survivor that come on at 8pm, has been around before the show premiered and still has higher 18-34 ratings and viewership than the show according to tvbythenumbers. Furthermore, social media (especially their twitter and Youtube channel) continue to be active with 6,511 followers on twitter where they post videos of episode previews and updates. They also on their twitter have been highlighting prime actors such as Daniel Henney’s interaction with fans, who seems to be getting a lot of critique from critics for being the quote “man candy” of the show. This review by Sharmila Nair from star2.com states how she believes Henney is the only reason why the show is popular:  http://www.star2.com/entertainment/tv/2016/04/20/tv-review-criminal-minds-beyond-borders

Overall, based on the shows decent ratings and constant 7.48 to 8 million viewers according to tvbythenumbers, I believe the show has a chance of doing pretty well.

The Family — Post #7

ABC’s The Family received ratings and viewership numbers on par with what it has been experiencing the last few weeks.  Last Sunday’s episode received an 0.8 rating, with just shy of 3 million viewers tuning in.  Shows with better ratings this season have already failed to gain renewal by ABC (Blood & Oil) but The Family continues to trudge along.with no word of renewal or cancellation, or whether or not its order of episodes will be cut.\

One interesting fact noted by Tim Surette of TV.com in an article written back on March 28th is that The Family does have strong DVR numbers.  One episode that he noted, when including the DVR numbers, had its ratings increase 100% to a much more appealing rating of 1.6.  I am not quite sure why this show does so well with DVR as it is in a time slot that seems like it would allow fans to watch episodes as they premiere, but it is interesting to see if this will have an impact on whether or not ABC decides to bring it back for a second season.

Cooper’s Guide — Post #11

Another week, another abysmal performance by Cooper’s Guide.  The show received a 0.4 rating for its new episode “How to Survive Your Parents’ Visit” last Sunday, which marks the third week in a row that the show received a rating of 0.5 or lower.  Furthermore, barely over a million viewers tuned in to watch.

There is still no official word on whether or not the series has been cancelled or not, but it is very possible that this episode was the last that will air.  The other three unaired episodes have been preempted by FOX for now and if they do air at all, it will not be for weeks.  The finale of the series was originally scheduled to air on May 8th.  Now, the time slot for the show on May 8th is instead going to a rerun of The Simpsons, meaning that all three episodes that have yet to air would be airing after the original scheduled date of the finale.

Rush Hour- Post #11

Another week has passed and CBS’s Rush Hour seems to be finding its home. This past week the show had a 0.9 rating in the 18-49 demographic and had 4.26 million viewers. These numbers are not bad in comparison to the ratings that its two competitors are getting during this 10 pm time slot, but it is not the greatest either. The show also had the same rating last week, but this week it lost almost half a million viewers. The reviews have also all been the same. The critics say that the show lacks originality and lacks the action and comedy that made the film franchise so successful. It is still unclear what the future for the show is, but it is not looking very good. I feel as if CBS was going to renew the show for another season they would have done it by now because the show is in its third week. I guess only time can tell, but it is too hard to call right now. The ratings aren’t terrible, but the reviews are.
