Cooper’s Guide — Post #9

This last week was not kind to Cooper’s Guide.  In its new time slot, the show posted an abysmal 0.4 rating, with a measly 0.97 million viewers.  After coasting at a lowly but not quite as awful 0.8 rating for several weeks in a row, with a previous low of about 1.7 million viewers, the ratings absolutely nosedived, and the prospects do not look good from here.

TV by the Numbers has updated its Renew/Cancel standings, in which Cooper’s Guide previously held a 2 out of 5 rating.  Given the ratings nosedive, its standing was lowered to a measly 1 out of 5.  According to the site, this rating indicates the show is a “sure bet to be canceled by May 2016.”  It singles out Cooper’s Guide and fellow FOX disappointment Bordertown as two shows that are likely to be one-and-done.

Two new episodes of the show are set to be aired the next two weeks, so there are finally no more strange hiatuses between new episodes.  The performance of these two episodes will be critical; more ratings like last week would surely indicate cancellation.

Rush Hour- Post #9

The day has finally come! Rush Hour finally premiered on CBS this past Thursday at 10pm. Leading up to the premiere the stars of the show were tweeting a lot and their Twitter page got a lot activity. According to Nielsen data on tvbythenumbers.com, the show had a 1.1 rating in the 18-49 demographic and had 5.06 million viewers with its first episode. Professor Jones says that for a show to premiere this late and attract those kinds of numbers is not really a bad thing. The competition in its time slot is NBC’s Shades of Blue and ABC’s The Catch, both of whom received very similar numbers last Thursday. However, regardless of these numbers, there is a lot of talk around the web that Rush Hour will most likely be cancelled by May. Tvbythenumbers.com has a rating scale for “renew/cancel” and they do not have the show lasting very long. We shall see though because there is clearly a fan base from the films and also people have been positively responsive on Twitter. Only time will tell for Rush Hour.

Thursday final ratings: ‘Big Bang Theory’ adjusts up; ‘Scandal,’ ‘Life in Pieces’ and ‘The 100’ adjust down

Bordertown

Bordertown has been struggling since its airing so it should come as no surprise that they are continuing to struggle and may even be cancelled. After this past weeks ratings, the show would be very lucky to live on. With a rating of 0.4 in the 7PM hour on Sunday, the show is showing to be on a continual decline. Hopefully nobody loves this show because it will most likely not be around for too much longer, if at all.

Shades of Blue: Post 9 (Season Finale)

Word Count: 171

Shades of Blue wrapped up its first season last Thursday. The season ended with a little boost in ratings of 1.10 in the 18-49 demo with 5.425 million viewers. That is a 5.75% increase from the previous weeks ratings.

Social media was buzzing during the finale as the episode left the audience with a lot of questions to be answered in season two.

I have not seem much written about season two, besides the episode order will be for 13 episodes.  A Variety reporter, Elizabeth Wagmeister, said that information came from the showrunner for Shades of Blue, Jack Orman.

Season one also had 13 episodes, which is a shorter order. TVSeriesFinale.com reported that is most likely because of  Jennifer Lopez’s busy schedule.

Lopez told People Magazine in an interview that it took the Shades of Blue team 2.5 years to develop the show and get the script and characters right. She also said she is not sure where the show will go from here, but it will be back for season 2 on NBC.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders Post #9

The ratings of last Wednesday’s episode on March 30th have made a drastic downturn. The culprit for the show’s decrease in ratings was due to Empire’s return to FOX, which was so successful in its first run that it even outdid the ratings of Survivor (Survivor had a 2.0/7 rating for 18-34 year olds compared to Empire’s 4.8/15 rating). Tvbythenumbers.com estimated that as a result of Empire’s return, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders and Survivor both went down a tenth, with Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders going down from a 1.5/5 rating from its second episode, to a 1.3/5 rating for 18-34 year olds on its most recent one. Empire also had a great amount of viewership compared to Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders (Empire had a whopping 12.46 million viewers).

According to tvbythenumbers.com, Empires viewership was in fact had the largest number of viewers out of all of the shows that tuned in on March 30th. The original Criminal Minds was the second most viewed with 9.17 million viewers. Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders had 7.07 million viewers, which is not awful but still not as great of a number as Empire’s. Empire’s large number in viewership could be because of the show’s timing. Empire comes on at 9pm and Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders comes on at 10pm. And, even though it’s a good sign that the show has not moved its time slot, and also continues to have a decent amount of viewers, the show’s decrease in ratings could mean that Empire takes over as the most watched show on Wednesdays.

The Family — Post #4

ABC’s The Family has been experiencing a steady ratings and viewership decline with each episode since its debut.  It started with a rating of 1.48 and 5.7 million viewers for its debut episode on March 3rd and those numbers dropped with every single episode, until eventually its most recent episode that aired on March 27th received a rating of 0.60 with 2.61 million viewers.  It will be interesting to see if this trend continues this coming Sunday or if it will finally experience an uptick in its rating for the first time.

Critics were initially skeptical about the series, though apparently the content is becoming more interesting as the writing gets more bizarre.  Perhaps this shift in the content of the show will lead to more interest, or perhaps it is too late to salvage the show and it will get cancelled like Blood & Oil, the previous show that failed to find its footing for ABC in this time slot.

Cooper’s Guide — Post #8

Cooper’s Guide is still undergoing another hiatus until April 3rd, so I decided to check in on its social media.  It has barely gained any more followers on Twitter, as its total currently stands at 2,424 followers.  Its tweets mostly consist of gifs and pictures from the show that attempt to humorously reflect relatable situations.  They do not receive very many shares or likes. It also has 4,902 likes on its Facebook page, which posts less often than its Twitter but still somewhat frequently.

There is no more recent news about whether or not the show will be renewed or cancelled.  With how often the show is experiencing periods without new episodes, and with the fact that it got moved to a less attractive time slot, I cannot anticipate that it will get renewed.  However, even if it is renewed, it could be possible that it gets cancelled during its second season unless it experiences a dramatic turnaround.

Lucifer Post #10

This week Lucifer brought in a rating/share of 1.2/4 and 3.79 million viewers. Both rating and share stayed exactly the same from the week before, but viewers went up 0.03. Over the last few weeks Lucifer has been maintaining a steady rate/share, although their viewers have been slightly fluctuating each week. However, since it’s premier back in January, Lucifer has been doing fairly well.

In regards to social media, Lucifer has been extremely active on their Facebook page with consistently posting newest clips and previews. Currently, the account has been promoting each recent episode and encouraging fans to go watch on FOX NOW. As for Twitter, Lucifer seems to be focusing on their hashtag, #LuciferOnFox, which is trending majority on Tom Ellis’ Twitter posts. However, last nights episode was the first episode that Ellis and co-star Lauren German, did not tweet or post any memes/clips about the show. But, German did post a short sneak peek to the Monday episode two days prior.

Although the stars weren’t active in tweeting during this weeks episode, both themselves and the Lucifer Twitter account continue to increase with Twitter followers each week. They all still maintain a strong interaction with fans and critics from all around.

Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders #8

To recap from the show’s ratings from their premiere last week Wednesday at 10pm, with a 18-34 rating of 1.6/6 and 8.65 million viewers according to tvbythenumbers.com. Their second showing last week on March 23rd at 10pm, the episode, “Turning Point,” had a 18-34 rating of 1.5/5. This was a tad lower than the premiere episode, but not to extensive of a drop. The show also had a decrease in viewership by 1.05 million (in total they had 7.60 million viewership this time around). Last week’s episode was also a tenth higher than the show “Code Black,” according to tvbythenumers.

Even though there was a drop in viewership and 18-34 rating, the drop was not a drastic one. As shown above, viewership only went down by 1.05 million, and the 18-34 rating only went down by 0.1 (1.6 rating minus 1.5 rating). ABC’s Blackish was before the show, but had less viewership of 6.07 million, though their 18-34 rating was higher with 1.9/6. Similar to the primeire of the show, Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders was more popular than Nashville when it first premiered…but Nashville has since increased its rating on imdb.com. Imdb.com rated Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders with a 5.7/10 stars compared to Nashville’s imdb.com’s rating of a 7.7/10. The user reviews about the Criminal Minds: Beyond Borders were negative, claiming the show was too “cheesy and without depth.”

Despite the negative backlash from critics, their social media continues to thrive, where they now have 5, 2006 followers.

Cooper’s Guide — Post #7

Cooper’s Guide seems to have found a consistent general rating that it has been hovering around for its new episodes, though it is awfully mediocre.  For its two episodes that aired on March 6th and 13th, both received a 0.8 ratings, with viewing totals of 1.85 million and 1.95 million, respectively.  The previous newest episode to come out had also received a rating of 0.8.

In more significant news, Cooper’s Guide was moved to a new time slot that represents a downgrade for the program.  Seemingly losing some faith in the show, FOX moved it from 8:30 to a less appealing 7:30 time slot on Sundays, switching it with Bob’s Burgers.  While both shows average a similar numbers of ratings and Bob’s Burgers averages an only slightly higher 1.3 average rating compared to the 1.2 average of Cooper’s Guide, perhaps FOX is simply showing more faith in the continued success of a show that is currently in its sixth season over a lackluster newcomer.  Furthermore, the next new episode of Cooper will not air until April 3rd.
