Limitless- Post #7

Limitless has been doing very well since it’s release about a month ago. Reviews now have been a lot better since initial critic reviews before Limitless officially went on the air. The Orlando Sentinel calls Limitless “a standout for its creative visuals and fresh approach to the crime procedural.” The article also compliments Limitless on its impressive audience size, and predicts that it will grow even larger when executive producer Bradley Cooper makes another cameo in the episode on October 27.

Despite this positive review, Limitless experienced another decline in ratings and viewers. Last week, Limitless was rated at 1.4 with 8.1 million people watching, over a 1.5 million decline from its premiere. Limitless was beaten in ratings by the premiere of Chicago Fire on NBC. The show had a 1.8 and 7.37 million people watching.

Scream Queens – Post #7

Scream Queens has been receiving some strong backlash lately from The Parents Television Council for showcasing “graphic decapitations and discussions of necrophilia”.
Although the comedic horror is rated age appropriate for 14-year-olds and airs at 7 pm in some time zones, the council doesn’t find these topics to be suitable for such an audience. Arguments are increasing against the show’s excessive use of violence, general nastiness and sexualized dialogue. Parents are warned to keep their children and teens as far away from viewing this program as possible.

The most surprising foscream-queens-ptc-mcdonalds1cus within these complaints is how McDonalds, an active advertiser during the show, is being urged to stop its affiliation with the program. The Council states how these weekly commercials reflect the brand’s positive stance on sexual fantasies with corpses and senseless killings. The organization went on to say that sales are falling for The Golden Arches due to poor sponsorship decisions and their own franchise is being negatively impacted through such relationships.

At the end of this week’s episode review, a link was included to write to McDonalds to share concerns. Is PTC taking this too far?

“Rosewood” Post #7

In an effort to stay relevant and alive after weeks of declining viewership, Fox’s “Rosewood” is bringing a slew of stars to gain excitement and buzz around the series. Taye Diggs has been added to the cast list in a reoccurring role opposite Morris Chestnut. The two are no strangers to each other, since they both have starred in “The Best Man Holiday” together. Taye Diggs has just ended a Broadway run of “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”, where he played the lead after Neil Patrick Harris reprised the role. Taye Diggs will play a renowned disease doctor and longtime friend of Morris Chestnut’s character. Diggs has had experience in other medical shows such as “Private Practice” and “Grey’s Anatomy,” thus the casting move could also prove to be a strategic plan to gain viewership from loyal fans of those two veteran and successful medical drama series. The episode is said to air mid November.

Week 6 Best Time Ever with NPH

It looks like NBC is trying to reach over the aisle and enter a new market of targeted viewers: the heterosexual male. NPH conducted an interview with Sports Illustrated’s Andy Gray to publicize and promote the show Best Time Ever, probably partnering with that specific magazine to encourage those who read and keep up with Sports Illustrated. NPH of course has a repertoire on the arts front which is a cross over for women and all other males in the creative/ artistic world of Broadway, music, theater, etc, yet his decline would presumably be at being relateable to the those men who have no focus on the arts and only on last nights game. The strategy here is remarkable for NBC to gather more viewers and such a targeted audience at that, even though NPH comments on his favorite sport as “tennis” and his favorite athletes “alent-wise, it’s Andy Roddick or Rafael Nadal. Looks-wise, it’s Cristiano Ronaldo” which heterosexual males would probably not comment on looks of a player but of course NPH is still being NPH. The conversation quickly becomes diverted from “Best Time “to “How I met your mother” and becomes more of a personal mantra of his preferences, favorite food, favorite Beatles song etc, which seemingly will not help the overall viewership of his new endeavor.

The network did a bold move recently thought by changing the time slot it aired, moving it to its new time Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET/PT just before The Voice. NPH says that the move is ” a nice way to look at the last four episodes that we’ve done and really start refining what worked and trying to address what didn’t. And I think it will be an easy thing to accomplish with Jack Black on board. With him comes super-fun energy, amusement and that gung-ho, I’ll-do-anything attitude, which is pretty appropriate for our show.” The show itself is about half-way through its fall season and we look forward to seeing where this new time slot will take us and if the male viewers will tune in or not.

The Muppets Post #6 – Jamie Zaslav

This week The Muppets continued it’s ratings slide as it has become apparent that the show is not attracting the audience the show is aimed at. In the 18-49 demographic, The Muppets scored a mere 1.3 rating and only got 4.5 million viewers to tune in. This marks the second consecutive week scoring lower than a 2.0 rating in the 18-49 demographic. At the 8pm slot, The Muppets went up against NCIS on CBS (the clear winner of the time slot), The Flash on CW, Best Time Ever on NBC and Grandfathered on FOX.

The new episode is entitled “Pig Out” and focuses on how the crew of Up Late with Miss Piggy was forced to invite their demanding boss, played by Ed Helms, to their traditional after work get-together. The twist is that they actually have a great time with their boss.

Personally, I had a great time watching, the karaoke sequences with Chef doing “Rapper’s Delight” and Beaker singing “I Got You, Babe” had me laughing so hard!

Minority Report- Post #6 Cut Backs

This week, Minority Report’s rating plateaued and remained at a .7/2. However, the number of viewers dropped from 2.3 million viewers to 2.05 million viewers. This drop in viewership is leading to cutbacks from Fox. This show will sadly most likely not make it to a second season.

Last week, Fox cut back from 13 episodes to 10 episodes. This did not cause too much stress because the 3 episodes that were cut were going to be aired after the fall hiatus. The 10th episode was always meant to be the big finale of the season and Fox will still air the last 10 episodes based on the original plan. Based on the fact that Fox already cut back on the last 3 episodes and no other media platform has picked up the show, Minority Report will most likely be canceled after the first season. The season finale might end up doubling as a series finale as well.

Limitless- Post #6

Limitless is doing very well so far in the season. They maintained consistent ratings and viewers without any significant drops in the first two episodes.  Although, they have experienced a slight drop in ratings in the third episode.  Last week, Limitless was rated at 1.7, however, they still had 9.57 million viewers.  This is interesting because even though ratings dropped, viewership still remains consistent with the premiere.

As for live plus seven numbers from Limitless’ premiere, the show’s audience increased 45% to14.26 million people.  Also, according to The Wall Street Journal, its “18 to 49 audience was up almost 70 percent.”

Given their success so early in the season, sites such as Ad Week and TV by the Numbers are confident that Limitless will be destined to have a second season.

Quantico #6 – Full Season Order

Last weeks’ blog mentioned that people were intrigued, but skeptical about the shows direction, well apparently ABC is not. On October 13, ABC made the call for a full season order of Quantico, so the unfolding mysteries will continue. With this, the series is up to 19 episodes with the possibility of 3 more being created, brining it up to a full 22. The 19 episodes is basically a full order because mid-season ABC has a heavy lineup of shows.

The commitment comes after impressive L+3 and L+7 numbers boosting viewership up another 5 million bringing the show to a total of 12.2 for Week 2. This has been impressive and shows that Quantico can stand-alone since it has been competing against: Sunday Night Football, Week 3 against AMC’s premiere of The Walking Dead along with a weak lead-in from other new ABC drama Blood-and-Oil. This weeks episode may have been titled “Cover” but there’s no hiding the Quantico has proven to be successful.

Scream Queens – Post #6

Rumors are popping up; Scream Queens may be included in 2015’s canceled TV shows, due to it’s lagging ratings. This past Tuesday, ratings fell to 1.2, down 14 percent from last week. Overall, the show has fallen 25 percent against its premiere.

There may not be much truth to this assumption though, as Dana Walden, Fox Television Group Chairman and CEO has openly discussed interest in a second season. In an interview with the Wrap, Walden discussed how he’ll wait a few weeks for data to trickle in to make an ultimate decision, but the seeds have been plotted. The show itself has a large following of powerful endorsements, as well as the continued increase in ratings 3- 7 additional days after airing each week. This is perfectly exemplified by the official viewing numbers from the show’s premiere. According to ZapToIt, Scream Queens had a ratings increase of 1.4 in it’s first week, going from 1.7 to 3.1; an 82% increase. That equates to 7.1 million total viewers after 7 days.

The viewer interest is there, the numbers exhibit that, but the timing is proving to be an issue. How will this all play out?

Rosewood Post #6

Viewership in Fox’s “Rosewood” has steadily declined since its series premiere September 30th 2015. However, Morris Chestnut, who plays lead role of Dr. Rosewood, has been receiving some praise for his charisma and good looks in the comedy-drama series. Many critics argue that Chestnut’s personality and charm is simply not enough to hold the series together. The show holds a 7% score on Rotten Tomatoes, due to the series lack of originality and “wow-factor”. Top critic, Margaret Lyons writes, “Rosewood is a snooze and a half. The dialogue is awful, the series largely humorless, and every move that happens in the pilot is something you’ve seen done better elsewhere.” Thus, a lot of the reviews about “Rosewood” revolve around the fact that the series has been done before. However, I will give “Rosewood” a chance to heat things up as the season continues and gain some originality as it find it’s place in the fall drama slot .
